Decapeptyl side effects

Hello - I recently stopped taking Esmya due to the side effects and the impast on my daily life however my consultant wants to give me decapeptyl injections instead. I am really nervous after the trouble I had with esmya as I have read the side effects can be very similar and as its an injection I cant jsut stop it. Anyone out there can give me any advise. I am due to have a full hysterectomy on 29th April taking this is supposed to shrink my 11cm fibroid enough for keyhole.

    Hi Deb RJ,

I haven't actually had decapeptyl, but I have had Zoladex injections, which I think are very similar. I have had 10 over the last 6 years. I didn't want a hysterectomy, and as I was approaching the menopause, I opted for this treatment. I didn't suffer any side effects at all, apart from my periods stopping which was brilliant! They gave me my life back. I am sure they did shrink my fibroid, but it grew back rapidly each time I had a break. As I am now 57, I am just keeping my fingers crossed, and waiting to see what happens, but I would not hesitate having another if the need arose. Hope this helps.

    Hi Deb RJ

Apologies but I cannot offer any advice on the injectable drug, I hope that it works well for you, fingers crossed.

I would very much appreciate your comments in relation to the Esmya side effects - I have been taking these tablets for only two weeks with fairly minimal effects (again, fingers crossed!) Jus wondering what / when you experienced if you don't mind sharing?

    No probs if not, thanks,

Hi lou I was unfortunate that I suffered with major dizziness lots more pelvic pain headaches and insmnia. As I spend alot of time driving I couldnt cope. Took it for a month. I feel much better now I stopped taking it I think I was just one of the unlucjy ones as most of the reviews are excelkent. Hope it works for you.

Thanks for the reply Debbie, really appreciate it. My sleep is poor even though I feel very very tired most days, plus I seem to have a constant discharge but that is pretty much it so far - sounds like you had a much worse time of it then I am having. Lets hope that this new injection works for you eh? These fibroids are the devil, men have it easy lol!!

Hi Deb,i hope everything went well with your surgery,i've had suffer with severe pelvic pain due to fibroids since 2010,i had terrible, terrible time with the whole process to find the right consultant to work with me and understand my needs.I wasn't ready at the time for hysterectomy as i was only 36 years old.

I had a myomectomy April 2011& which was great,2013 my periods become painful&left me bed bounded with pain, pelvic pain become unbearble,i had a scan which shows an subserous fibroid on top of cervix left side.

I saw DR Ball at the Royal London Hospital which prescribe ESMYA but only 16 days on the side effects

made me feel so un well that i had to stop taken it.After 2 days off Esmya im much worse than ever as my whole body stings, lower back pain is just unbearable,my eyes sting, pins&needles in lower legs & i feel like my body is been intoxicated with acid.

Thank you for sharing your experience & i wish you a fast recovery.

Leila So sorry to hear what you are going through. i am still waiting for my hysterctomy now scheduled for next week (last one cancelled due nto noro visur in hosp). I felt much better when I came off esmya - took a few days though. I then had decapeptyl which I have to say has been brilliant no side effects and I feel so much better and thats before the op. I hope you also find something that works for you.
