I’m 12 weeks post tkr surgery.  The cement feeling in my knee has finally gone away but now it feels like a vice grip is attached to both sides of my knee squeezing tight. The more I walk the tighter it gets. Early in the morning it’s ok after being off my feet; but about 1 hour later the squeezing sensation starts. I’m scheduled for mua in 1 week but I’m apprehensive to go through with it. X rays show the implant is aligned properly and my ROM is about 111. Anyone else have this experience?

I have not had the squeezing feeling. For me when I get up I am pretty stiff and once I move around it gets better. Now if I do too much well that is just pain. Does the squeezing get any better as the day wears on or does it get worse ? I am guessing its also effects some of the exercises you do. I have been thru a lot but this is new to me.

Stiffness, tightness, a "band-like" feeling...all the same.  This is very simple: it gets better gradually, imperceptibly over time.  Typically, almost complains about it by 9-10 months and it's virtually not there at one year.  Docs say some sensation may last 12-18 months.  Most people find that if they sit too long, the knee feels stiff when they get up...even years later.  So it's important to keep active and moving.  I'm 2+ years and feel it rarely...again, when I sit too long.

?Your next step is to rebuild the musculature that supports the knee.  Quads, glutes and core have all atrophied post op so you need to rebuild those muscles.  Failure to do so puts all the pressure on the knee joint when its the muscles that should be doing most of the work.  That will cause knee pain so the rebuild is mandatory...

?Gym or exercise bands at home...gotta do it.  Walking and biking are not enough...need the strength training.  You should be in pretty good shape by 9 months but then need to continue a maintenance activity program for life.  Let the muscles go south and the knee will let you know it.  These are reports from veterans 3-5 years post op.  Take their advice seriously.
