So 8 months after my bunion and hammertoe surgery I've seen my surgeon again and the news is not good !! Hammer toes no 2,3 & 4 are worse than b4 and he's suggesting another "progressive " surgery starting with manipulation, tendon release & if he's not happy with that then another osteotomy or fusion of toes ! Thinks he can improve my situation but cannot guarantee that stiffness & pain will diminish !! Have constant stinging/burning sensation. And hurts to walk on foot as can't push off toes. Alternatively he'll refer me to pain specialist to see if I have CRPS & try to improve my walk with orthotics. I know my foot will never be 100% but can't settle for the 50% I'm at right now as I'm only 47 ! Wonder if anyone else has had similar problems, I know everyone's situation is different but can't decide to put up with it or risk another surgery !!

Hello Anne, I thought I was having it rough until I read your post! I had bunion surgery with tendon release 7 months ago and am still in constant pain and my big toe is stiff as a board. Have got a carbon fibre insole and another thin sole with built up areas to try and stabilise the foot to reduce pain. Am on the 12 week waiting list for a steroid inj into the joint to see if that helps before my surgeon considers fusing the big toe joint. He said he would put me on the "urgent" list but when I phoned to check he has not done so :-( I cannot wear anything with the slightest heal so am really fed up with trainers and granny velcro sandals. Like you I did not expect 100% but do not want to be left with my foot as it is, I'm 56 years young! I want my life back, at least pain free........

I hope you get things sorted out soon.

Hi Anne,  I am 5 months after having double bunion surgery. I also can not put feet flat on ground as I have a pulling sensation under the big and second toes. My big toes appear to be drifting back towards the others. So putting my feet flat is very uncomfortable. I am waiting for my surgeon to give me an appoinrtment date. I am so over this just want to be able to walk normal as I am walking on sides of feet I feel as if I am damaging that part of my foot.  I hope you get some relieve soon. I am  very disappointed at the moment I ahve been and seen a pain doctor he did not really say much just for me to give it time. It hurts to do anything. I did this operation as I wasin constent pain with the bunions now I am still uncomfrtable and I don t have bunions.

Hi Pauline, It's so frustrating to go through surgery and so much to end up in pain. Think I'd prefer to have my bunion pain back instead of this wonky painful foot I've been left with ! I do not remember being told that it could go so wrong,. After much discussion I've decided to have another surgery, feel I can't end up any worse so fingers crossed !!

Hope you get to see surgeon soon & keep pushing for a resolution .

Thanks Susan, keep pushing your surgeon for an appointment and some resolution, after all you are the one living with pain and discomfort ! Likewise I live in granny sandals and trainers and as if pain wasn't enough the unglamorous look is depressing ! Am not bothered about heels but normal shoes/sandals even flip flops we'd be great. I have decided to go ahead with my second surgery and trying to arrange ASAP so fingers crossed & will keep u posted............
