Decompression Surgery Advice

Hi,

I'm having decompression surgery in a little over 4 weeks. Are there any things that i should do to prepare myself? Is there anything i should look out for after the surgery? Is there any advice you would give with regards to the surgery and coming months of recovery?

Thanks,

Charli

    Hi there

I had this surgery last Thursday- very straight forward. In preparation for after your surgery, I would suggest buying satin/silk pj's or Nighty, it's so much easier to slide in & out of bed or change position, you'll be mainly sleeping on your side as the incision site is too sore to lay on. I was only in hospital over night and was home next day as long as you can walk and have also had a wee! Make sure you have someone looking after you as you won't be able to bend, lift, stretch etc Also get a box and put all your bits and pieces together so you have everything to hand. My hubby is doing everything for me, cooking meals and basically making sure I'm comfortable. I'm on day 5 and can get up out of bed, go to toilet, climb & descend stairs but sitting isn't very comfortable so will spend a couple of hours downstairs, have a little walk round and then come back to bed. I'm hopeful for a gentle walk in park at weekend, so fingers crossed 🤞 I'm so impatient but don't want to mess things up! It takes 4-6 weeks for full recovery. Any questions, please just ask.
