Decreased meds

Hello, , This is a question for anyone who has decreased their fluoxetine. I was on 10 mg for one year and then increased to 20 mg for eight weeks. I could not handle the side effects so I went back to 10 mg. I have been on 10 for three weeks now and I am still dealing with some side effects, although milder. I never had any when i was on the 10mg for a tear. Is this normal?

are the side effects you feel after decreasing the dose the same ones you were experiencing after increasing to 20mg? It's possible that you're having some withdrawal, or your body is just still adjusting

this medication had a similar effect on me. Prozac was not my first medication, Lexapro was. I felt the Prozac made me more up-beat, ambitious, and energetic. But, after a few days, I fell into a depression and just felt down and out. Hence i reverted back to the Lexapro. I hope this helps.

u did actually wrong once u have increased the dose then let it kick in...its very slow process...i even shout on my psychiatrist that u have prescribed me a wrong medicine its not good for me if i will die u will be responsible he laughs and said ok i will be responsible but dont decrease the dose and just keep taking it...after 12 weeks struggle now m happy n stable there are no more side effects...i came to know this drug needs time...first it will disturb then it will be good...u are too early...u should look your condition first if u are stable with 10 mg then no need to increase the dose...but after 3 months there is no recovery then consult ur doctor and increase dose....psychiatrist has written on the prescription paper that dont increase or decrease the dose by yourself...u can split the dose 10 in morning 10 in noon but first write your symptomes on a paper and consult the doc...

The more I read on here the more I realize it really is a full 12 weeks but I just could not wait one month longer. I seriously think my body was not handling it…my doc was the ine who told me to go down to 10mg but she is not a psychiatrist. I did not realize i could have split and done 10 in am and 10 in the pm.
I started this drug to help my occassional panic attacks. I feel like the eight weeks of side effects were so much worse than the anxiety i was dealing with prior to increasing meds. I really hope I made the right choice for myself. Time will only tell. Thank you so much for all of this information and input! Glad to hear you are doing well.

yes but doctors will not tell us the right time coz they know we will start counting days and day by day more frustration will be faced by us so first they say 15 days need to kick in then they say 6 weeks then finally after six weeks they say 3 months to wait for full effect...so dont worry it will work just dont change the dose keep only one sequence of dose 10 or 20 dont go up n down coz its half life is more than a day in this way u will not get better so just keep one way of dose and constant quantity of dose 😃

I concur. Additionally, it’s important to take it at the same time each day. These medications are not things to play with, they have major side effects unfortunately.

Likewise. I agree, I feel doctors often do not explain how serious and involved it is to take this type of medication,
