Deep pain during intercourse

I've had deep pain during intercourse for years now, and have had different treatments including gnrh injections which worked wonders. I have been told that the only option I now have is a full hysterectomy. I'm absolutely dreading the thought of going in for this operation, but at the same time I know it's my only option. I'm just wandering if anyone else has felt like this?

I've had quite a few gynea problems over the yrs including prolapse surgery a few yrs ago. I always have negative smears and recently I've been told I have a 5cm cyst on my ovary for which I've been referred to the cancer and haematology department. My appointment is tomorrow. I'm petrified.
I've never been offered these injections. Could you tell me about them please. I've mentioned a hysterectomy before but reluctant as I'm only 34, however I have my two children and don't intend on having more.
I've spoken to many people who have had the full hysterectomy and all say it was the best thing they could of done. Of course the recovery is quite long I believe but I'm sure in the long run will all be worth it.
Best wishes

Firstly how did you get on at your appointment?
The gnrh injections basically put you in to artificial menopause and you need HRT with them. They are the only thing that has worked for pain and bleeding in the last 18 years.
I have been given another injection and then a date in August for the op. My daughter starts school in August and that's why I'm waiting until then.
I've only just turned 35 and have 3 children, so my family is complete. I just feel numb and I don't know why.
Take care

Thank you for your reply.. The appointment was ok but there was a descrepency over the scans. The MRI ( which I had for my back which first discovered the cyst) showed a simple 3cm fluid filled cyst. The ultrasound which I had two weeks later showed a 5cm complex cyst for which he was not sent the details from but just the referral letter from the GP. For that reason I've got to have a repeat scan in a couple of weeks and repeat bloods. I'll see him again on the 29th. So all in all I'm none the wiser. He was also adament that the abdominal pains I have are not linked to the cyst.
I'm currently laid in bed with sharp pains on the right hand side ( where the cyst is) and yesterday my daughter asked me if I had a bad tummy because it looks swollen.
I'm just so fed up of waiting. Went to the GP yesterday who has referred me back to gynea. The appointment is the 23rd of June it's iust such a long time to wait and be in pain.
I will literally snap their hands off if they offer me a hysterectomy now!!
Do the injections give you side affects? I guess they might if it's HRT?
Thank you so much for your help.
Best wishes

Sorry to hear of you problems but I'd like to tell you my story in the hope that it gives you some reassurance. I suffered prolapse womb and bladder (I'm 62) and last year I had a hysterectomy. I was lucky enough to have it done vaginally by one of the best surgeons around who also carried out a bladder repair. If you have to have the op then try and get it done vaginally as the recovery - for me anyway - was a doddle. I had little or no pain except a bit of soreness the first night after the op. I needed very little pain relief thereafter, just occasional paracetamol and ibuprofen. I had a general anaesthetic so knew nothing about the op. In fact when I came round I thought I was still waiting to go down for it!! I was signed off work for 6 weeks but it was more like a holiday than recovering from an op. I was going for walks within the first week and at the end of the six weeks I was running again. The only 'blip' I had was at two weeks post op I twisted awkwardly to pull a plug out of a socket behind my sofa and obviously tore some stitches and suffered a quite heavy blee later that day. I spent the next day in bed but was then back to normal.
I would also add that I was in a fairly new relationship at the time of the op but I'm pleased to say that the op has not affected the physical side of things and I have had no discomfort at all.
Best of luck but please don't worry if you opt to have a hysterectomy but do try and get it done vaginally.

Glad to hear you were well after yours. I seen the surgeon on Friday and he is discussing doing the op vaginally, which would be better for me as I have 3 children. After 18 years of pain and bleeding I think it's time to get it done.
I'm also reassured that there was no problems with the physical side of your relationship.
Thanks for your reply.
Take care

I'm pleased you feel a bit more reassured and glad that your surgeon is open to looking into the possibility of having the op done vaginally. I'm sure you will feel glad you had it done when it is all over and you no longer have any pain.
Best Wishes and keep us updated.
