Deep Tissue Massage

Hi Family,
I am 10 weeks post-op with LTKR. I am 3 weeks post-op after manipulation and scar tissue removal. I am still having a very hard time sleeping, bending, walking, etc. Still have quite a bit of scar tissue and can only reach about a 100 bend and that is with the TENS unit on my thigh. I am going to see a Deep Tissue Massage Therapist tomorrow morning. She said she will break up all of my scar tissue and loosen the muscles in my quad/thigh. She did say I will be screaming and crying, so needless to say I am very frightened but I am willing to do anything to get this knee going again. I was only 105 before my actual TKR due to 5 arthoscopies and 2 of them involved a lateral release. I am a 45 year old femaie.
Has anyone had experience with deep tissue massaging and if so, did it work?
Thanks so much!

Hi Tracie,
I had a partial knee replacement in Nov 2015. Prior to surgery I got my Sports Injury Therapist to work on strengthening my knee ready for surgery. No sweat ! After surgery, starting about the time my dressing was removed (13 days after surgery) she started massaging the knee and the surgical incision scar with Aloe Vera Gel, 99.9% grade. It wasn't deep tissue massage, and I certainly don't recall pain. She also massaged and continued strengthening my leg (quads) so that when I was off crutches I could walk as normally as possible again fairly quickly. So, it all it worked. But, I still had to work at getting my bends and straightening my leg and I was exercising at home 5 times a day, daily. all through the first 8 weeks I kept up my massaging, bought my own Gel and when not having therapy was massaging my knee myself.
Hope it works out OK for you.
John
