Deep Tissue Massage and Menstration

This is my first post here and I want to share something that recently just happened to me.

I stopped getting my period my mid teenage years and I am now 20 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS. I started taking birth control and I started getting my period regularly but then I stopped because I didn’t like the side effects the pills gave me.

Just last year, I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone. I only took the pill 5-10 days and waited for my period to come. My OBGYN said that it was okay to have an irregular period so I took the pills every 3 months. I haven’t gotten a new prescription since August, which was when I got my last period.

Friday, I went to a masseuse and received a deep tissue massage. Apparently, the massage is supposed to detox your body of toxins and unclog the lymphatic system (I really don’t know anything about pseudoscience.) But Sunday I started to experience really bad cramps and I thought it was just a stomachache because I don’t get my period without it being induced by the pills. Then on Monday, I started my period and I have bad cramps (it’s normal for me to have them.)

Is it possible that the massage induced my period? Because like I mentioned before, I don’t get my period at ALL unless I’m taking pills and I find it coincidental that after a massage that’s supposed to detox my body, I got my period. Any input or opinions is greatly appreciated!
