Dehydration with complications

As ever I'm afraid the following is very vague, over the last few years I've made a lot of visits to doctors and had lots of tests for light headedness and vertigo etc but still no idea what might be wrong though I think I've narrowed it down a bit.
Currently when I have an "incident" (difficult to describe but light headed, mental aberrations, visual disturbance ... generally I feel "odd" very briefly ... ie a few seconds) after the sensation I feel very "drained" for a few hours. The ONLY thing I've found that makes the symptoms less severe is hydration, I don't know how I established this might be a problem, maybe sticky mouth etc but if I make myself a lemon honey and salt drink I feel it helps, then keep drinking weak squash throughout the day I feel kind of normal. So I'm chugging water all day long and need to be in easy reach of a loo this is OK but what could be causing the situation ? when I 'look up' dehydration there are no obvious "illnesses" ... too much exercise and heat etc but nothing clinical.
I drink beer and wine most days but not excessivley and cut right back in the hope that it might be causing the problem but I think not, I'm reasonably fit, eat a good healthy diet.
If anyone can be bothered to work there way through this I'd love to hear some thoughts !

Hi Rogerroger,
Sounds like could be sugar dips as you seem to be drinking sugar all day too in your honey and lemon and squash. You also drink alcohol most days, you said in your post, which causes dehydration. Do you drink coffee/tea? As they increase What he need to urinate. What kind of diet do you have other than liquids as you say a healthy one? Is that including lots if fruit and veg as they have lots of liquid in them too.
The lightheadedness and vertigo feelings i get too and things that help are cutting down on noise and bright lighting. I also put my finger or an ear plug in my right ear until it passes, which it does.
You say you've been seen often by your doctor and so I'm wondering if you have had blood tests for iron levels, vit d and/or b12. Iron and vit d deficiency cause a lot of different symptoms but dizzyness and fatigue are some of them. I also ask about b12 because when i was low on this it made me much worse with the vertigo feelings.
Hope that helps some.

Thank you so much Beverley the honey/lemon/salt drink is just in the morning, I also drink 5 or 6 cups of tea. I eat well, fresh meat or fish plus fresh vegetables and fruit most days, the vertigo has eased recently but the weird feelings (I say "weird" because I find them almost impossible to describe) ... I'm not sure about specific test when I get my blood tested, it's a yearly thing we old people get automatically, liver function and the like, my wife is diabetic and tests my blood now and then and it's fine, I check blood pressure regularly and it's always Ok.
Good of you to take the time.
Roger

I can understand why you are puzzled by the weird feelings that are hard to describe when you have tested diabetes and blood pressure and have blood tests quite often. Ask your doctor what the tests are including and ask if you could check if you could test for iron etc if not already checked for.
I have cardiac arrhythmia which can make me feel lightheaded too which can be in short bursts. My main issue is chronic fatigue syndrome and so i can totally appreciate non specific feelings that are hard to describe!
Hope you get some answers soon.

Thanks Beverley, good of you to take the time ... I must get back to my GP and get him to take my condition more seriously, I think that, because I'm basically fit and well for my age, he doesn't see any problems and as I can't describe them well he thinks they're the ramblings of an old man, it's not as if I'm a serial visitor to the Doc, I've probably been half a dozen times in 4 years, I'll insist on some more tests !

I think that's a good idea and you're probably right thinking the doctor sees you as healthy. I struggle to describe things too and believe we possibly don't have the words in English to describe some things! Also, sometimes tests come back ok even when there's definitely something not right. My symptoms started after i was injured in a car accident. One symptom is my right foot goes significantly colder than my left. It if freezing to the touch but not all the time. I Never had it before the accident. Mri scans and nerve conduction studies show nothing. Poor circulation is ruled out too. As it's not majorly affecting me, the exploration has ended there even though i still have symptoms.
Hope you get some answers. Please post back to update if you do.
