Hi All
Im having my first dental check up on Friday since my op in Sept 2019. will i need to inform the dentist about the op or is it just when you have fillings etc? Im in the UK

im in the US. My instructions are after at least 5 months are to always take an antibiotic at least an hour before ANY dental procedure. Good Luck and be safe from any infection.

I was told I will always need to take antibiotics after my thr when I go to dentist.

Hi,
Yes you will need to take antibiotics one hour prior to any dental appointment, even a cleaning for at least 2 years. Very important.

Thank you everyone for your replies and comments. It seems that along with the TED stockings , 90 deg rules , exercise and other things, there doesn't seem to be the same rule for everyone.
Ive contacted my hospital today and they have said as long as I' m after 12 weeks ,which I am ,no special precautions are needed.
Of course I will also mention it when I get to the dentist as well.

I discussed this with my surgeon some time ago and he said antibiotics are not needed. He said that the ADA also supports this decision. Antibiotics are overused which is dangerous for everyone. I have been to the dentist several times since my two hip replacements, including a recent dental crown appointment.
