I keep forgetting to ask. Do any of you SS sufferers have dental problems?I have spent thousands over the years on my teeth and don't know if I'm finished yet! Thanks. Irene

i have ne er officially been diagnosed with SS but have many of the symptoms. I have had horrible dry mouth and throat and some days can barely speak.
yes, started having major dental issues p, gums receding and teeth getting loose. Two dentists suggested I get dentures. Saw an Oral Surgein that said I still had about 8 good teeth and suggested I try to deal with things as long as I could. It is very hard for people with dry mouth to wear a denture.
Found another dentist and went in for a consult and he agreed with the Oral Surgeon. Long story short, I now have either false teeth or crowns on all my top teeth. $12,000. Fingers crossed this will last for a long time.
He gave me Prevident for dry mouth to use daily. Need to floss daily. I use Biotene at bed time and am drinking something all the time.

Several years down the line I am on my 4th or 5th set of dentures NHS style. Id tried just having fillings but i kept getting tooth infections. Thats why i did this, and went to the dental hospital over several months. Havi g a dry mouth means we need to look after oral hygeine even more. I use mouth wash that the dentist advised and regular check ups. Have to watch certain foods for my tongue, as it can become sore, sugary foods make it worse. Hope this helps you!

Yes. I can't eat spicy things at all as my tongue flares up and mouth burns. I really hope these implants last for some years yet at the price I paid. How do you manage with food/swallowing? Thanks again.

I find swallowing any food difficult. With or without dentures. always need a drink with any food.
Dentures you get sores in your gums, well I do. Have to be careful how I eat, very slowly some food.

My dentist said the same re dentures, that's why I have so many implants. I have to drink water to enable me to swallow too. Like you, I have to eat slowly and, despite that, food does get stuck in my throat every so often which is a nightmare. We're in the same boat Carol. Take care.
