Dental surgery whilst having osteoporosis treatment

hello

I had 2 teeth out in Jan of this year were the dentist had to leave behind a piece of root because it broke off and a few months later I started with infections. These infections in my jaw have continued to return every few weeks making me feel very poorly and I keep needing to take antibiotics which Ive had 6 or more courses now. They have decided the only way to deal with the infections is to operate and remove the root from my gum. I keep getting told that because of the osteoporosis injections I have every 6 months I am at high risk to get a condition call osteonecrosis. They keep warning me so much of this problem I cant help but be frightened. Has anyone else had to have invasive dental treatment whilst being on injections for osteoporosis and been fine. I need all the reassurance I can get.

I would have thought it very important to deal with the infection. That sounds like a priority to me. I think the dental procedure should be carried out by a very experienced person who will probably have some idea how to minimize any possible bad effects from surgery. But surely ongoing infection is worse?

    What is your osteoporosis medication?

So are you taking Prolia (denosumab)? And if your former medication wasn't working did the doctor run any tests to find out why not? They should run tests to determine whether you have any "secondary causes" of osteoporosis. You can google that yourself to find articles about the various conditions which should be ruled out. I'll post a link to one below.

i am under a specialist for this but my concern at the moment is the dental operation I need to remove the left behind. I was hoping someone had experienced similar and could possibly reasure me that it went well with no problems.
