Depressed with this...

I do not know what way to turn anymore with my sinus problems.I am a male age 36 and have suffered from Asthma and hay fever since i was 11.I am suffering really badly at the minute with my sinuses my nose becomes 100% blocked in both nostrils each morning when i wake up which means i have to breathe through my mouth which sounds funny and drys my mouth up i then have to try and sneeze and blow this green gunge away every day,i usually use nasal sprays to try and get my nostrils cleared but i may use have a bottle of decongestant,i am addicted to the stuff,it provides some relief for me.I suffer a pinpoint headache above my right eye and my whole face feels heavy as if it was going to swell and explode,im also getting fevers each day in the evenings and keep getting really strange shivery goose pimple sensations all the time.Over the years ive tried Flixonase, sudafed, otrivine nothing works even on a good day i am always partially blocked. This bout has lasted over 2 weeks i am going to GP this week, last time i went i was reffered to a consultant who said i have rhinitis and it would go away with treatment and in typical fashion the day of the appointment was one of my better days.I am at my wits end dont know were to turn i hate this having the cold feeling and being blocked all of the time.I do know that the sprays are probably having a reverse effect through over use but if they give me even a wee bit of comfort what am i supposed to do?I hate this its getting me down and my loved ones around me are fed up of listening to me moaning.Even to here from someone else suffering would help me.

THANKS FOR READING,ANDY

    Hi,

I dont have any useful advice i just wanted you to know that i am experiencing exactly the same thing! I am 36 and have been suffering from rhinitus/sinusitis. I am allergic to lots of things and for the past 6 months have had a completely blocked nose. I have been using otrivine nasal spray which works really well but strangely affects my sense of smell and taste. I have been told that long term use will damage the nostrils and i will become immune to the effect but at present it is the only thing i can do to get a good nights sleep. its really hard to sleep with your mouth open all night! You would think that in the 21st century there would be an effective, non damaging treatment for a blocked nose but i havent come across it yet! When i do, i will let you know.

I entirely sympathise with both of you and it is a pain which no one really appreciates how horrible it is unless they've had it themselves.I've suffered with sinusitis now for over twenty years plus I'm a chronic migraine sufferer. At least there is more on the market for migraine relief.

At the moment I am religiously taking a sudafed decongestant tablet and paracetamol 1g every six hours. The relief lasts for a couple of hours but to conserve my liver I use a steam inhalant of Olbas oil with an ingenous little cup that has a mask which fits over your nose. I make the inhalant very strong and it does give some short term relief at least until I can take the tablets again.

If the symptoms haven't cleared after 4 weeks I attend my GP for antibiotics-strictly last resort but have been warned that a sinus flush may soon be needed; not pleasent I hear.

Anyway best of luck and hope you get better soon.

    I feel your pain, man...

I reached this forum looking for something that works, but it seems we are all falling in desperation. I've tried antibiotics, decongestants and corticosteroids. They seem to work for a few hours, but then is even worse!

I really give up with antibiotics sad My defenses are worsening and now is even easier to catch a little cold which easily becomes sinusitis again...

Please if someone find something new, post it!!!
