Hi. It's case of "just when you think you are winning" Boom! along comes a problem of a different kind. The stomach flu hangs around for some time and it can make you feel exhausted.  Be kind to yourself. Give yourself some kind of treat. Know that you are getting better mentally, The flu caught you unawares. Don't let it beat you or bring you down.

Have you tried Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, it really helps us to stop thinking the worst!  flu can make you feel tired for a couple of weeks and unfortunately that can make the depression TEMPORARILY worse.  But it is temporary.  I have always found metatone tonic great to take after having flu.  Also anti biotics, mostly amoxycillin, always makes me feel low and depressed. I have to work hard and telling myself it's just the anti biotics when this happens.  Make sure you are eating and try and get outside and talk to a few people, even if it's only people in the shops.  This should helpf you get back to where you were in January.  I do hope so anyway.biggrin

I know this is a year old, but I'm just wondering how this turned out for you? I'm going through the EXACT same thing right now. Had been doing really really well on my meds, then got the stomach flu and it has totally thrown me off.

Hi Jake. I know your post is years old and not sure if you even come on these forums but could really use your input as i am in the same position. Diagnosed with anxiety and depression which has been well managed for the last 6 months until i caught a stomach bug and then BAM the depression and anxiety came flooding back. The bug has cleared up but i'm a week into a really bad depressive and anxious state to the point where my GP is upping my meds. Did you grt through it? If so, how long until you felt back yo the way you were before the bug? Thanks

Hi Nathan. My doctor ended up increasing my sertraline dose from 100 to 150 and pesceibed diazepam to help with the horrendous anxiety and depression i was having until the new dose settled a bit. I started to feel better after a couple of weeks but yesterday and today i've felt awful but noticed the pharmacy has given me a different brand to my usual one so think this might be the cause this time. Are you on any medication? I tried everything (diet change, stopped drinking - although wasn't a big drinker anyway, exercised more and did meditation) but medication is the only thing that's really helped me to be honest. I know there's a lot of stigma around meds but if taking a pill each day will stop me feeling the way i was feeling then i'll gladly take it.

Yes this is a very real thing that does not get talked about much. Im guessing most doctors dont even know about it. The reason is the brain gut connection which you can google to find out about.

Anyway I have biological depression and are on anti-depressants for life.I recently had the nonovirus. Even after the virus had gone, I was knocked for 6. Stomach all over the place but mainly very very flat, and uninterested in the usual things . It lasted for about two weeks, but I had to be very proactive to pull myself out of it. I took b vitamins and taurine, maca powder and ate lots of yoghurt.

Also a couple of years ago I had to take anti-biotics for a bacterial infection and this also caused a serious drop in my mood, which took me a good few weeks to conque, as the antibiotics killed all the good bacteria.
