Depression and boredom

Hi,

To cut a long story short I have been suffering from depression for many years and recently I haven't been able to work for five months and have now resigned from my job due to the pressure they were putting me under to return. I am currently unsure as to whether I am fit to return to any sort of job even working a few part time hours a week, however I am looking as I need that focus.

I struggle with motivation however recently I just struggle to see the point in even getting out of bed, because what's the point - I only watch TV, read magazines or books, or do crosswords etc. I wait for my boyfriend to come home from work each day and wait for his days off so that I have something to do. But the hours and days in between are very long. I feel like if I had things to do then it would at least give me a reason to get out of bed, even if it does take me a long time to do something.

Anyway, my question is, what do you do when you're bored and to help you fill the days?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions x

I once got stuck in a similar situation of work and sleep and all I would do was read and wait around for my boyfriend . At the time I had just moved into his parents house and it all became a bit too much. We we're sharing a single room and I felt so clostraphobic. So January this year I made a huge decision, I wansnt going to be prisoner to my depression anymore so a change of career helped me a lot, also once I started to socialise with a new crowd I was able to look at my life and relationship from an outside view. I'm 21 and my parents had voiced their concerns about my partner of 18 months before they found him controlling and belittling towards me and it wasn't until I got out of my current boredom that I saw things for how they really were.

Obviously I'm not suggesting you have relationship problems , a big part of my depression coming back was non physical abuse from my ex partner. Now I have a new job and I've started a load of new hobbies to fill my time. I've started mini knitting projects to big furniture painting . Anything and very thing I do takes my mind of my depression and boredom.

Hope this has some help to you

    Take care of your self

When I'm bored I like to watch television, mostly informational shows or eat sweet things. I know I will regret the sweet things, because I will crash afterwards, but it always motivates me to have a little sugar.
