I have experience with giving up smoking or patches , but I think most people on this forum would agree the first 0-4 weeks on citalopram can be horrendous, but worth it if you can push through. I would mention that to your doctor to make sure there is no issue with nicotine and the pills.

If you remain okay, sounds like you have decided. Trouble with happy pills are that your moods change quite frequently. I would recommend speaking to your doctor, especially if cit was prescribed for depression. I would think depression is more important to resolve, than giving up smoking. Cit does give horrible side effects, but you have to stick with it. My opinion is that with happy pills, to go from depression to normal, you have to go through stress and anxiety, ie what people call side effects. Looks like this phase can take 5 or 6 weeks to go through.

Hello Claire, I started cit 7 weeks ago, 30mg first 3 weeks, 40mg last 4. Really up and down at first, then 2 weeks of horrible flatness and anxiety. Think I started to come through end of last week. At same time decided to stop smoking and switched to a vape. Switching took 5 weeks to sort, 2 different vapes and 20 flavours until I got it right. Now I love my vape, and haven't smoked a fag for 4 weeks. It was a bad idea to try switching when I did, but I couldn't face thoughts of smoking any more. If you try a vape, you have to play around with them quite a bit. I use a gekko vape, with a long thin pipe attachment, and elix e liquid, artical flavour. Only flavour that hits the spot. I'd say wait to give up, until after you are more settled on cit. For me, noticeable improvements came after 7 weeks, and general consensus is give it 12.

I tried a vape but cant get on with them as I have a reaction to the stuff in it i have stopped taking my citalapram tablets now as I really want to pack in the smoking and I have already seen a difference by stopping the tablets but the anxiety and the muscle twitching is so annoying I haven't smoked for 2 weeks now but was on patches and citalapram 20 mg since then never took 1 yesterday or today and feel alot better

2 weeks is good on patches. Couldn't have managed that myself. Keep at It. I think after 3 or 4 weeks of giving up fags, you begin to settle down. Good on you.
