Depression caused by illness

Hi,

ive vey been suffering with acid reflux for the last month. It feels like I have a lump of sick in my throat. I can hardly eat anything at all which is making me feel very weak. Imagine having drunken a whole bottle of vinegar and the taste it would have in your throat. That's what it's been like for me over the last month.

Id id suffered with anxiety and depression in the  past but it wasn't caused by an illness.

The he anxiety and depression has come back because of the illness. I'm back on Sertraline which helped in the past.

Ive vey also gone 10 days without smoking as my throat has been so bad. Obviously this is causing a lot of stress.

Doing simoke one tasks is so hard as my concentration is shot to pieces.

Can an anyone offer me any advice on what to do?

Im im getting zero enjoyment out of life at the minute and just hope my throat gets better. I know my mood will lift a lot once it does.

Feeling like ive im going to throw up every few seconds makes you really miserable and it's the only thing I concentrate on.

Been taking the the dog out for a couple of walks each day but am feeling tired because of the depression, lack of food and not smoking anymore.

Thanks

Rob

    Hello Rob !

Off the smokes - fantastic ! Feels like sh*t but this alone is so good for you. Get help from GP or chemist with patches. They will help you keep it up. While at chemist ask for their best anti acid for your reflux (if that's what it is ...) I use Zantac, which is now over the counter. Doing these two things will hopefully help you you feel a little better. Keep walking the dog, even just patting, brushing etc will help both of you. Well, it helped me. The dog never gave up on me. One of the few.  I hope you feel better soon, David.

Food wise - Perhaps try a banana or two? Easy to swallow and good for us. D.

Thanks David. Not tried Zantac yet so will have to try it. On some other tablets the doctors prescribed which don't seem to be working.

Just thini in if the walking will do me good to release so go frustration.

    Hi Rob,

That sounds really tough. I think you should see a doctor specifically about the acid reflux and nausea symptoms. I have a friend who has a hernea, their stomach pushes up into their oesophagus. He noticed it through acid reflux. Perhaps this could be causing your symptoms? Of course, I am not a doctor so do not let this stress you out! I just think it might be worth checking out, just in case.

Try to take it easy on yourself. Walking with your dog sounds like a good way to destress and take your mind off things. I hope you feel better soon

Rob, there's help for acid reflux. I have it too and take Omaprezole which completely gets rid of the symptoms. I know how much acid reflux gets you down it's horrible but luckily there's good treatments. GP as soon as you can, all the best.

Sorry I missed the part where you said you already have tablets for it, they will take a while. Avoid spicy food, alcohol, caffeine and junk food. It will take a while to calm down, I get bouts still and they generally take a few weeks to go.
