Depression - Citalopram

So about me - recently my anxiety/depression came back and iv struggled to cope. Came back after 6 years. I got over it without medication last time but struggling at the moment. It started 3 months ago where it came from nowhere..I stopped going work and socialising..slowly I started going out again and back to work and became slightly more jolly ..I still had headaches etc but I was going out more ..I thought I would keep myself occupied and was doing something everyday and work turned out to be something that helped ...but last week at work all of a sudden it came back ..thought I'd go for a walk but couldn't brush it off so I went home...since then I spend most time at home in my room looking on Google for help etc ....just went to doctor's who's given me 20mg citalopram to use for 6 months and honestly I am petrified to take them after stuff Iv read ..what do you people think ? My mum and fiancé are against it but I wanted opinion from people who has or is suffering from this. Or maybe something natural ...read stuff about 5http - fish oil - magnesium - st John's wort...not sure tbh

I originally wanted CBT but though the NHS that would take months to sort out .

I can understand your worries as there are a number of side effects and they aren't for everyone.

However, it is one of the methods that can help you life your day to day life and help you improve. I am taking Citalopram and have been for 2 months now and started to feel a bit more myself after about 6 weeks. Day by day it improved. I would recommend also getting yourself on the waiting list for therapy on the NHS.

It isn't for everyone and some methods work better for some than others but I would definitely say it's worth a try especially when it's your well being here. You wouldn't think twice about taking tablets for a headache or painkillers for a broken leg. Citalopram is no different.

Have a think through it smile this forum is here whichever way you choose!

    Take care x

Hi there - yes, you may have to go through a couple of weeks of not feeling so good, but the majority of people do have very definite benefits after taking citalopram for several weeks/months.

I would suggest that you start it and see how it goes.

Also, although the NHS waiting list is long for therapy, please go on to it. Therapy will certainly help you.

And stay with the forum here - we are very supportive of one another.
