I was mildly depressed and given lexapro, it immediately made my depression severe and now a year out I'm still very depressed. I Don;t think it is logical to try and SSRI because the last one ruined my life. what should i doo

Been there, done that.  They will try you on other anti deps to see if anything works.   I am longer like this than you and all these meds made me worse.  There is a conspiracy amongst psychiatrists not to tell us all this and only 50% of people get better.  Answer to this? I would love to find it. Hope you get some good responses.

Why have you been on it a year if it is not helping? What works for one person may not work for another. Have you told your doctor/psychiatrist? What does mildly depressed mean? I have major depressive disorder and SSRI's have helped me in times I could not leave the house. They help millions of people. Maybe you need to try a different one. What are your symptoms of being mildly depressed? I can feel sad and down but not be clinically depressed. Hope things work out for you.

No i have been off it a year after taking for a couple of months, but horrible side effects haven't went away.

I had lost enjoyment in things I liked doing before, couldn't really envisage a future. I took the drug and became suicidal and was barely able to get out of bed. Since I took it for 2 months I haven't been able to work due to fatigue, dizziness and cognitive impairment. It ruined my life and doctors want to give me more ADs even though I tell them all this.

If SSRI doesn’t work for you then you could try tricyclic antidepressant . Talk to your dr about SNRI too. They are newer drugs out there and there must be one that suits you . Good luck

I too was on Lexapro and did not do much for me, I then went on Mirtazapine and that made me worse and tried Zolof and that was good. However, I am on Fluoxetine and that is really working for me. You just have to try different medication until you find the right one. Good luck and god bless.

Hi Naz, explain your concerns to your doctor and tell them you want to try an antidepressant but not an ssri. Donna x

I'm sorry but why would I want to try another AD, it's been a year now and I'm still disabled and housebound since my last one on them. If the last one didn't kill me the next one might finish the job? Is there no other option for depression than drugs that have already made me sick? christ
