DePuy Recall or Metal poisening

Has anyone in this group or know of anyone who has had metal poisening from metal on metal implants?  I know DePuy had recalled some implants, but I'm more concerned about the poisening from the shavings?

I'm allergic too many metals so I went to an allergist before I had my implant...Titanium, plastic and ceramic used on me.

Ceramic is only the ball joint and polyurethane cup around the ceramic ball. The femur implant is always titanium a amalgam of different metals called surgical steel. There have been no femor implants made of plastic or ceramic see manufacturers listing for more info.

Your just not getting it...I said I did not want metal, my Dr. used the products that would cause be the least problems, and yes I am allergic to some metals in the titanium, I wore pieces of the tianium from Zimmer on my back and did have a slight rash reaction.

and I had my replacement in May of 2015, I am not ignorant to this. I prepared for the worst and so far so good. I took care of myself by requesting many blood tests and allergy tests so I wouldn't have a problem with any metal. Then I choose to have the hip replaced.

I had a recalled hip called ABG ll by Stryker, metal on metal. It's important to have heavy metal blood tests every 6 months.

When metal implant components rub together, they release cobalt and chromium ions into the surrounding tissues and into the bloodstream and can create toxic levels in the body, leading to metallosis. ... The same problems can occur in hip implant patients if the amount of metal ions in the blood is excessive.

Erosion around the neck and pseudo tumors as well as swelling in the lymph glands.

I just had it removed and a revision is tougher removing all the implants damaged tissue and healing .the replacements a bit longer & larger implants are used in revision.

im 5 weeks post OP feeling so much better having all the damaged tissue removed already the cobalt in my blood levels have gone down , as well as the metal on metal implant. I'm ready to start a better happier healthier quality of life. Soon I will be walking without a cane.

See your doc for X-rays MRI' S AND HEAVY METAL BLOOD TESTS EVERY 6 months if you have a recall metal on metal  hip.

I am very sorry to hear you are going thru this. I'm always here. Best thing is to research all you can on &  learn what is needed and find a doc to help you.

    Hopexxx

Thanks for the info.  I am not going through this but my friend is who had hers replaced the same time I did.  That is why I'm wondering if I should be concerned about my hip implant.  It has been 7 years and I have no symptoms except ocassional squeaking.

My brother has problems with his metal on metal THR, has blood tests every now and then to see how much is in blood stream.

I'm sorry I thought everyone would know what I was talking about. I did not want metal on metal implants. I'm allergic to many metals, after many allergy tests my surgeon implanted a ceramic ball with a plastic liner and a titanium femur, that was the safest choice for me....
