Derealization/panic disorder

I have severe derealization that has last for over 2 years. I'm really scared it's like every day of my life is a dream and I'm scared to go anywhere or be alone. Some days are better than others. I take Zoloft for it and I have neurotiin for panic attacks but I'm scared to take it. Does anyone have any advice on how to get past this? Sick of being scared to live my life.

Derelization is horrible and I'm sorry to hear this is affecting your life so badly, how ever derelization obviously is an anxiety symptom but it's there to protect you I read once, when you panick you sort of shut yourself off and it's meant to protect you. Maybe if you relax or find some hobbies or take a short break you'll feel more relaxed and maybe find some inspiration and you may feel more alive and real again if that makes sense? I found sertraline (zoloft) made me have really bad social anxiety and derelization personally I am so much better without them ! Xx

I try to do things to keep my mind off of it but somehow it's always there. I feel like the derealization dreamy feelings is what is making me so anxious because I just want to do all the things I use to. I know it's all in my head I wish I could just overcome whatever it is. Also about the medication I have been on so many different meds for it and Zoloft is the only one so far that isn't making it all worse (I think) I was scared to take medication and still am but fighting this myself wasn't working anymore rolleyes

I'm suffering from it right now as we speak on the train I keep telling myself Katie it's fine your with your dad and you'll be home in a few hours and be glad you went out! It's not nice but hey ho the world keeps spinning snd life goes on! And you will be able to do the things you used too just push yourself baby steps at a time. Do you have a fear of leaving your house?

I suffer from panic disorder! And derealisation! I know how hard it is! It's horrible, I know it's hard but you have to act the way you did before you had it, it's the only way you will be back to yourself! Force yourself to go places you feel panicked and feel the panic don't run from it! You must accept it! Accept it and move on with your day! It will get better, but recovery is a long process! There's ups and downs! But you will get through this!! Always here to help, message if you need a chat x

    Hey Stephanie,

I totally understand what you are talking about because I have the same issues. I dont take any medication for it though and it has improved greatly. Derealization is basically a symptom of anxiety overload. Like anything anxiety related it has its triggers but that does not mean you are in any danger. While it can be scary to feel disconnected from reality you are still able to live out your life. Besides the medications have you tried anything else to ease these symptoms?
