Just some information following attendance at dermatology last week.

I've had LS symtoms for many years but chose to stick my head in the sand about it until 2 years ago when after a visit to the GUM clinic re itch I was referred onto gynae and subsequently dermatology. Like many on this site I was just totally disheartened with their attitude but have followed the advice re use of clob/dermovate and hydramol and washing with dermol. Im currently also taking Rene Casse tea which there was a post about here.

I also have a MH condition and my medication was changed to Lithium earlier this year and I have subsequently struggled to keep the itch/burn at bay and have had marked labial fusion. Lithium is known to exacerbate psoariasis but I cant find a link (yet) with LS.

I have taken and persevered with supplements, apart from the vitd which unfortunately didn't agree with me, but maybe in some way was a blessing as when I became unwell on it they tested my levels to find it was extremely high as was my calcium level which in turn is related to the parathyroid gland which after a scan it seems one of the 4 parathyroid glands is malfunctioning.

Anyway back to the recent dermatology appoint....as my symptoms were not responding to clob I was patch tested for allergens including the clob, hydramol and aloe vera I use, I asked to be tested for borax solution too but they were unable to do it. I am still unsure as to the point of patch testing on an area of healthy skin but hayhoo I will ask that at my next appointment.

The two things that I did find out that may be of interest to others is that the next treatment they will consider is laser therapy-delivered by a hand held device originally used for patients with psoriasis on their scalps, apparently you get a few supervised sessions then treat yourself at home.

The other information was that dermatology have a psychologist attached to their service and although the waiting list is long there was an option for referral- I declined this as I don't think I need it.

Just thought it may be helpful to others to know what is being offered on the NHS (im in Scotland) so they could maybe discuss/ask about it in theirs if in UK.
