Dermoid Cyst and MRI Results

Hi,

I have recently been diagnosed with an 8cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary, I had an MRI scan last Thursday and I've just had the nurse phone with good and bad news...the good news is that it's benign but she said that it's a 'sticky mess' and that I may need a hysterectomy. Has anyone else been told this?? I'm so relieved that it's not cancerous but the hysterectomy was a bit of a shock and I'm sat here in floods of tears...I'm only 35 and while I'm not planning anymore kids I don't really want to go through a hysterectomy....I guess needs must sad need to wait on another outpatients appointment with Gynaecologist to discuss further

I had an 8cm tumour removed at age 38 and was warned that I might need a hysterectomy prior to my surgery. I asked, that if possible,  my organs be left in. That was my preference. Luckily, the tumour was removed--and a second was discovered and removed--while both ovaries & my uterus were not. I hope that gives you some hope. I think the nurse just needed to caution you about possible outcomes and discuss your preferences.

Thanks Christs, fingers crossed it was a case of just giving me the worst case scenario but I'm a little concerned about being told 'it's a sticky mess' doesn't give me much hope. However I'm feeling a bit better today, what will be well be and if I need the hysterectomy then so be it I guess ad I don't want to side any more pain. So now I'm just waiting (impatiently) for my next gynae appointment 😂 xx
