DERMOID OVARIAN CYST VERY ANXIOUS PLEASE HELP

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi

i have been suffering with lower pelvic pain on and off for years and some other symptoms heavy periods, needing to wee more mainly at night, I mentioned at my last doctors appointment and along with a urine sample I was sent for ultrasound scan.

The scan showed a cyst on left ovary 6cm and small 20mm on right ovary, I also had an internal ultrasound scan at same time, at the time of scan I was advised I have dermoid cysts.

when I attended a follow up appointment with the GP to get more info she confirmed the dermoid cyst, I have to say I suffer with anxiety so this has made me extremely Ill mentally. My GP advised me that from the notes from the ultrasound scan I have dermoid cysts that have no suspicious parts or walls/segments, no internal vascular features if have been referred to the Gynocologist at the hospital as size will mean removal.

i was wondering if anyone has a similar situation, how long will I have to wait ?

I'm having a bit of pulling pain and and aching off and on when going to the toilet is this right for what I have?

i feel very scared about cancer I have bad health anxiety and although the Gp and sonographers seem to think nothing sinister I can't think of anything else.

sorry such a long post any info would be great

I am 34yrs and mother of 2children

Hi, I have just had dermoid cysts removed from both my ovaries. I had open surgery rather than keyhole because they didn't want to risk damage to ovaries fue to me being young. I waited 4 months for operation so not bad. I had I last Wednesday and a week on I'm feeling alot better today. First few days are rough, very invasive surgery but be worth it long term. I have 4 children and my youngest 6 months, cant hold him yet.

Doubt it will be cancerous, dermoids usually aren't and your age its highly unlikely.

    Hope this helps x

Hi I'm 36 and have 3 kids ..I to have been suffering for years. . Had a laproscopy back in 2012 after doc saying abnormal cyst and possible endometriosis but I was fobbed of Saying just a fybroid. ,I gave up. .till I was pregnant with my 3rd child and scan showed a cyst on my right. .. After I had him ..I left enough time so they wouldn't say it was after effect ..I asked lady doc about my pains and was sent home with ibs pills. ..I didn't take them as I don't think it's that. .so I went back and saw her husband who is also a doctor. ..I asked for a scan .. Wich he let me have ...that was December. ..It showed a dermoid cyst on my left ovary..It saw specialist in January and was told ..its looks like a dermoid cyst but he doubts it's that that's causing my pain. ..He said I might have endometriosis. ..and said if I take microgynon for 3 months no breakand my pain stops it's endometriosis. ...my pain is worse and my right leg is agony like nerve pain...I had another scan last week and cyst is now 5 1/2 cm and I see him next week

      Hi

I have been having the lower back, pain in buttock, and going down the leg mostly on the side of the larger cyst. I convinced myself it was sciatica  I wondering now if this is connected. How long did you wait for the gynocologist appointment, I can't take the waiting now feed up not sure if symptoms are getting worse cause I am aware I have a cyst and so my stress/anxiety making it worse.  Did they seemed concerned about the cyst?

Hi carly- although we are very different ages(74) I felt it was worth answering as I had a cyst on each ovary in Dec 2014 8cms and 5 cms  I waited 7 weeks from diagnosis to operation. Don't worry about cancer-I spent a miserable Xmas and New year doing just that! and it was all benign more often than not it's benign! I had no aches pains or symptoms which is why it was a shock! Now i'm into 5th week of recovery and doing very well- I had a hysterectomy.I've been driving, walking and socialising and went back to gym and swim today. I'm careful to do what I can,but the surgery was the least worying part- you'll be well looked after. It's the waiting and worrying that are worse.x

Thank you Sylvia for your reply I think I just need some words from people that have been in similar situation, it's just been all I can think about at the minute it's really taken over everything

      thanks again

Thanks for quick replies, I'm ok with it one minute and the next I have doubts about diagnosis what ifs mostly which I know are not helpful.

i have never had any surgery or been in any real pain (other than giving birth)before so been lucky I think this is why it's freaking me out plus the symptoms are there the pain is getting me down and interfering with life.  When you google dermoid cyst it always says cancer which I think is the scary thing.

I hope I don't have to wait long for appointment & surgery

Hi carly- you're doing what I did- looking at the negatives! I thought of chemotherapy, radiography, losing hair, wearing a wig feleing ill for ages ! We all do it. Listen to your GP and sonographers, that's really positive.Once i got my operation date in January I decided to enjoy each day of the 2 weeks left as 'normal' as possible. I booked a holiday for May to have something to look forward to and counted my blessings. I had no pain but if you take the best pain killers you can until your op that would help as constant pain is so awful.-- i feel for you.Keep us updated hope your op is soon x

Hi. I had a dermoid removed last year and also have anxiety so I know how you feel. My cousin had ovarian cancer so of course alarm bells were ringing and I got myself wound up.

Looking back though, the worst thing I could of done was Google it. The internet has an awful habit of planting the worst case scenario in your head.

Yes they can turn cancerous but it's very rare (as assured by my gynaecologist) so try not to worry.

My pains were similar, like a tugging inside and constant loo visits some nights. I waited a year to have mine removed (the watch and wait approach) but looking back I'm glad they took it out. It was a huge weight off my mind and it will be for you I'm sure x

Thanks Lynda I hope I can put this behind me soon although they are saying don't worry nothing looks sinister you always assume the worst and like you say internet is my worst nightmare, how big was your cyst ? I thought the watch and wait was only with functional cysts as they can go on there own and dermoid don't.

My cyst was 4.5 x 5cm , fairly small in comparison to others but they decided to take mine out as it was growing, I was getting pains so my gyno decided it needed to come out x

    Hope this helps.

I had a dermoid removed .....June 2013 via emergency a&e ... but i had a lot of symptom before i had it removed so i cant really comment on the waiting times?

Re the loo situation - i had issues with pain and constipation before operation and then i managed to go to loo no problem after operation. it probably pushing on your bladder. sounds normal.

my anxiety was sky high before operation and i cant understand how your feeling, try not to stress as this effects your hormones which can make ur symptoms worse..pain wise etc... stress and hormones and anxiety all work together.

my dermoid was over 9 cm in size - and unfortunately why i ended up in a&e was because it twisted and damaged my ovary and tubes. so that was also removed on my right side.

I only have my left ovary and tube. - I had a 'simple' cyst develop on ovary and bladder recently and i am just out of surgery. From the scan till the operation date it was around 6 -8 weeks wait for operation.

I am nearly 33 and have no children, but i really want to try for kids asap before i loose my ovary thats left.

My anxiety once again has dropped after operation - i am calm apart from worrying am going to get another cyst ..what ever type of cyst it is.

Everyone gets cyst and they can be uncomfortable when they burst, however some people dont feel them much or at all.

However some dont burst and can contain fluid or like dermoid they contain teeth hair and bone etc... dermoid usually keep growing over time but how quickly no one can really say as everyone is different.

Please dont worry about cancer cause they can always do a blood test to check your levels which is CA125 test but if you have cyst or endometriosis this level can be high so it isnt the best indicator other then him physically getting in there and looking and taking biopsy.

Let me know if you want anymore info or you can private message me.

Hope you get on ok.... sounds like they are going down the right path and looking at you.

Can i ask were you on any hormone treatment pill or coil and come off them recently.

why i am asking is i was on coil for years and then when i came off few month later that when had my first operation when i had dermoid and ovary removed adn i think there is a link. plus few things on net mention that coming off birth control plays havoc with hormones and does things like this. just a thought.

really hope your ok..... gentle best wishes. x

Thank you for reply, I think it's the waiting that's the nightmare.

in answer to your question I haven't been on any birth control since having my first child 11years ago I could never find anything that suited.

i have been having symptoms now for a while looking back just been putting down to my anxiety, time of the month etc

lately my symptoms have been worse not sure if due to now knowing I have this my anxiety is escalating the problem.

fingers crossed you don't have to deal with any of these problems again x

being stressed waiting it definately a nightmare.

I was told just before xmas that my scan suggested milignancy cancer. i had to wait 6-8 weeks for operation thinking so i have cancer or not. and it turned out to be a simple cysts ovary and bladder. but both the relief of it not been cancer changed my anxiety but like i say i was depressed and anxious in 2013 and i didnt know i had a cyst and then when it was removed via emergency my anxiety changed straight away, so hormones play big part in anxiety.

I had to stop working begining of feb and go on sick before my oepration due to the pain, but i put that down to fact i got more anxious and it was effecting my hormones. i mean how can you wait 6-8 weeks for operation and it might be cancer?? how can you be relaxed.

most of the time it never is and like i say they did take some blood test.

i mean am sore after operation but i do feel relief.... and i still need the loo every two seconds but everything still swollen inside but its a different pain....

have you been given a date for your operation??? or you waiting to be seen. xx

That sounds very unfair to have to wait that amount of time if they suspected cancer, I have been referred by GP but in the conversation we had she didn't feel it was an urgent referreal so I don't know how long I have to wait for appointment just to see someone.

I can't bear the waiting i have considered private and paying to see someone quicker but I can't afford the operation private so will be left in same waiting position
