Dermoid ovarian cyst - waiting for open surgery - need to lose weight!!

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have an 8cm egg shaped cyst attached to my right ovary.  There is some concern that it might attach itself to my urethra so I will have to have the urology team involved in the surgery too.  Because of this they can't do key hole.  as I am 54 they are going to remove both ovaries at the same time. My gynaecologist won't operate until I've lost some weight off my tummy - I'm 5 ft tall and just over 11 stone.  I am back to see her next Thursday having lost just over a stone so fingers crossed.  I've always had a big tummy and find it so hard to lose from there.  I've been doing exercises too but I'm not having much luck,so I'm worried she still won't go ahead.  I have recently started having frequent pulsating twinges from that area (I wouldn't describe it as pain) and it causes discomfort on intercourse.

Any advice on losing my tummy, dealing with the cyst and recovery from the operation will be gratefully received 😘. Thanks all

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. It's not so easy losing weight after 50, I know from experience.

Weighing 10 stone/140 pounds does not seem like that's a valid reason to delay surgery-it's not a huge amount of weight-especially when there's concern that the cyst might attach itself to your urethra. And there's no way to guarantee that in losing weight, it will come off in the area you want it to, lol. Every woman knows that!!!

Your dr.'s inflexibility coupled with the pain you're experiencing would prompt me to get a 2nd opinion.

    Trust your intuition.

Let us know how it goes.

Well, at last I have a date!  I am due to be admitted on the 28th January for surgery of the 29th. I just admit that I am more than a little anxious, especially not knowing  which way they will be opening me up - vertically or horizontally.
