Dermovate cream alternatives?

Hi everyone,

I've started to have recurring skin rashes (red, itchy, turns flakey) above my upper lip (about once or twice a month) about 6 months ago.

I'm still not sure what exactly my condition is, but turns out Dermovate cream cures it within a couple hours.

I'm currently living in a 3rd world country and don't have easy access to great doctors. The doctor I saw here gave me Dermovate. I've now done some research on my own:

"Clobetasol propionate (=Dermovate) is classed as a very potent corticosteroid. It is prescribed to treat severe inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis that have not responded to weaker corticosteroids."

The thing is, my doctor never gave me any weaker corticosteroids to try and now I'm worried about Dermavote being overkill.

Since then I've bough Eurax over the counter (after doing some Googling for weaker alternatives) but it didn't really do anything.

Any recommendations on what other weaker alternatives I could try? I'll be able to buy pretty much anything over the counter here without a prescription.

(I realize I should probably see another doctor, but I just don't have access to a great one right now.)

You could try something like epiderm- it does have any steroid in it its an emollient- you need something very greasy- so my dermatologist tells me- they said i have lip lickers eczema on my top lip but im 99% certain that i never lick my top lip! Also see if you can get hydrocirtisone- its one of the weakest ones- i have really bad eczema all over me and the derm and gp have told me that the only thing dermovate should ever be used for is very bad spots on your hands feet etc but never on your face. Go for oitnment based things rather than cream- for some reason they are better. smile

    Thanks, that helps =)

I've just had luck applying a swedish bitters - based cream over the last few days. It seemed to help.

I'll report back how things go.

    Cheers!

My gp prescribed betnovate which is a weaker corticosteroid - I was only given dermovate when I saw a dermatologist though it works brilliantly for my eczema (mainly on my ankle).
