Dermovate - where to apply it???

I have just been diagnosed with LS. Well, actually I diagnosed it myself after I was initially told I had post-menopausal atrophic vaginitis (although I had white patches and bleeding under the skin). I'm about 6 weeks into treatment with dermovate. Am I supposed to put this just on the white patches? I have other areas of skin that are red and sore and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to apply the ointment to these too? Thanks!

So, I read on one of these pages...your skin on the vulva is supposed to be the same color as your other skin...if it is red, it needs to be treated, I think.

Thank you. Sounds like I've been undertreating myself for the last few weeks then.

Yes, you do. I only found that out after I saw the Dermatologist this week. I had been putting it just on the white patches and she said to put on the red, sore bits too! x

Thanks so much. Hopefully that should make a difference. Knowledge of LS seems to be pretty poor. It was a gynaecologist who initially told me I had atrophic vaginitis. It was only when the symptoms got worse that I saw my GP and said I think it's LS. She agreed and started me on the steroid ointment. The gynaecology consultant now says it's LS, but I've never had a biopsy.

I had a biopsy last year after having LS for 15 years. I've been to GP 6 times this year as I feel it's getting worse and they don't even examine me, so I paid privately to see a Dermatologist. I know there is no cure but it's good to know if you're doing things right!

i just put the cream front to back as i have it all over.

i don't think you can go wrong if you cover the area thinly.

i have never used what your own but i use clob and if you soak in borax and soda water for 15 minutes it helps with the itching. i have ls now for a year but im finally not red anymore and white spots gone away. BUT now i have licken planus on my skin its all over my back and my legs. went to the dermatologist and he said when you have it one place its easy to get it somewhere else.

How does that manifest itself? What are the symptoms you have?

i have had 5 biopsy down below and she said they got to keep check on it. y last gyn dr did nothing now i go every 3 months to be checked to make sure i dont have any cancer. so please keep yourself checked down there for any changes in the skin.

Five biopsies within one year? Are they checking for LS or cancer? That seems really excessive. I've never had any. Gyn examined for a very long time and said it was LS. I have no doubt that is what I have. Was diagnosed with atrophy 3 years prior.

i have never had biopsy either. gynaecologist diagnosed it by examining me after i had itching/buzzing symptoms and some fusing - never had white patches. I have always wondered why you need a biopsy unless it is because there is a suspicion of cancer.

A biopsy can rule out squamous cell cancer but as my recent gyn announced, a biopsy is not all that definitive to show it is or is not LS. She said if you assume it is, use the clobetasol, and it gets better then it was likely LS.

Jude, did the prescribing doctor not give you instructions? When I was first diagnosed the doc drew a diagram of where to apply. Within about 6 months it had nearly completely disappeared, then came back as a buzzing feeling. Saw the doc again this spring and she showed me on a diagram where it was and therefore where to apply. I would call the doc and ask to speak to the nurse. Tell her you were not given clear instructions. You are not the first person to say you were unsure where to apply. Can't believe doctors are that sloppy.

I did not start out red but have become so. I think it may be from the hormone cream. I assume you are using that for the AV?

Hi Beverly. My GP prescribed the steroid, but didn't say where to put it. I saw the gynae Consultant a couple of days ago (5 weeks after starting treatment). She wasn't even going to examine me until I asked her to check things were ok. I have vaginal oestrogen tablets for the AV. I'm considering asking for a referral to vulval clinic.
