    Hi Elizabeth,

I have been on Vagifem for three weeks but I don’t feel it’s helping, I also have soreness and stinging around the vagina and vulva area, my doctor has given me Dermovate but I have only used it a couple of times as I am worried I might put it in the wrong place because it’s a steroid I am being very cautious. I’m sure if you use it sparingly and follow your doctors instructions you’ll be fine. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Hi I'm new to this site. However had so many problems with atrophy UTIs etc gets so stressful. Decided to join this to see how others manage with vagifem saw your post. I've never had dermovate but imagine it could make you sore, but then nothing seems to ease the discomfort . I've been on and off with vagifem but this time I'm convinced it makes me worse. Hope ur treatment helps you.

Hi Sue I’m also fairly new to this site and I joined to see how other people were coping with AV as I am finding it really draining and stressful. I have been on Vagifem for the past three weeks and to be honest I don’t feel it is helping at all, I still have soreness and stinging and I would give my right arm to have some sort of relief from it if only just for a day. I have been given Dermovate by my GP but I have also been told that Dermovate only relieves the itching (which I do not have). I agree with you regarding the Vagifem, I think it’s making things worse.

Hi Sheila same as you I don't have itching , I was due my smear last week was dreading it as they always have difficulty doing it, no different this time GP couldn't manage it. Going to have it done at community Gynea clinic. Ugh the earlier stages of my menopause were nothing compared to this. I get UTIs then the darned antibiotics really upset my system!! I'm in my 60s 64 actually thought I didn't feel to old till I started with this VA . ..

      Hello again ladies

Please forgive me for repeating myself but for me using the Estrace cream internally everyday for two weeks then starting the  Vagifem 2x weekly.  The Estrace prepares your vaginal walls for the Vagifem.  For me it worked.  Some ladies need to take Vagifem 3x some up to 5 times a week.

I hope this helps some  of you ladies.  Feeling normal and quality of life is so needed.

      Blessings,

      wendy

Thank you for your response Wendy, I have been using Vagifem every day for the past two weeks and now it’s down to twice weekly, I do have some Estriol cream but I have been afraid to use it due to the Vagifem now being in my system. I am going to stick with the Vagifem (even though I don’t think it’s helping) until I see my gynea which will be in January, at least I can tell him I have followed his instructions and there has been no change in my condition (although, he did tell me it can take up to three months for any signs of improvement)!

      Best wishes ladies,

      Sheila x

Hi Sue, I sailed through my menopause and didn’t even realise i’d had it, but now at age 62 I guess I’m making up for it. I thought the menopause was the end of the suffering for us ladies I certainly had no idea about Athrophic Vaginitis this is all new to me AND a bit of a shock! What next?

      Best wishes x

Hi, not sure which medication you are asking about.  I

f it is Vagifem, then I have been using it for several weeks now with good results, but everyone is different, so maybe you are allergic to one or more of the ingredients in it.

Hope things get sorted out for you soon.

I am very sensitive to a lot of the local estrogen creams, they seem to make the stinging, burning and irritation worse not better.

i have just finished a course of Mona Lisa laser treatment, and it’s still early days, but the tissues are so much stronger now, and soreness and irritation is improving every day (last treatment was last Friday, so still healing)

i use the estring for vaginal estrogen, I find it is the best for me, and doesn’t make my symptoms worse, definitely keeps me more comfortable

      Hello ljp64

Do you still need the Estring along with the Mona Lisa treatments?  Some women still need the Vagifem with the Mona Lisa.  I would wish that the ML treatments would take the place of Vagifem and Estring.

      Hi Wendy,

yes I choose to use the estring, in the opinion of my gynaecologist and it’s makes sense to me that the local estrogen helps prolong the effects achieved from the Mona Lisa treatment, after all its the lack of estrogen that causes vagunal atrophy, so it seems right that I continue to use it

Thank you......I was just hoping that the ML treatments would take care of the AV issues and not have to use Vagifem or estring........but know we need the estrogen........how are you doing?

Just to add further, on days when things are bad, try sitting on an ice pack wrapped in a thin towel, it really helps soothe that horrible soreness and irritation I find x
