Desarda inguinal surgery in UK and Europe-Any recommendations?
Posted , 5 users are following.
I am trying to find out if anyone has had or is about to have Desarda based inguinal hernia surgery in the UK or Europe.
I live in London and I have seen that London Hernia at St John and Elizabeth Hospital in St Johns Wood offers Mesh and Tension free surgery based on the Desarda method.
Has anyone had this specific surgery done in London? If so, who was the surgeon? Or are there any surgeons based in Germany who are well respected and experienced? I'm doing my research so that I can get surgery after the COVID-19 situation has calmed down a bit. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
David.

Hi David,
Have you got any further with your research and had your surgery yet?
I've recently been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and would prefer a non-mesh repair.
I've found a surgeon in the north east who's done 10 Desarda repairs and Dr Martin Kurzer at St John and Elizabeth Hospital in St Johns Wood, who apparently does Desarda repairs too. However, on his personal website, Dr Kurzer only advocates mesh repairs, so I'm hoping to find a specialist, if there are any in the UK.
I've found three consultants in Germany who sound good and happy to give you their names if that would be of help.
I'd really like to have the procedure done in the UK for ease and follow up reasons, particularly as travelling is so complicated and slow at the moment - I don't fancy a 7 - 8 hour journey each way, especially after surgery.
Best regards,
Jack

Surgery in Germany by Dr Lorenz who is more skilled in tissue repair costs less than half the price Martin Kurzer charges. You could get a flight, a hotel and stay 3 nights in hospital with peace of mind you're well looked after and still save money. I was referred by Martin to Lorenz the other month as he wasn't confident in doing the Desarda repair I wanted.

Hi Scarlet9,
Thanks for your reply. Think I may have messaged you on another forum too (or someone with a very similar username). From the surgeons i've researched in Germany, I was leaning towards Dr Conze at the Munich Hernia Centre, though Dr Lorenz was next on my list, though I'd much prefer to have treatment in the UK for follow up reasons. Have you heard of the Moloney Darn repair? I've found a UK surgeon who offers this, as well as mesh repairs, with very low recurrence rates apparently and I'm going to do more research before deciding.
Cheers,
Jack

Hi David,
I live in USA, back in 2010 I had the Shouldice technique for the treatment of inguinal hernia in Paris when
I visited my parents, and so far so good. the Shouldice repair is the technique without mesh inserted.
Since 11 years I did not have any chronic pain and I am very happy with this Technique.
Good Luck
