Desperately need answers

Hi all.. This is my first time posting in any forum like this. I am so desperate. On June 10th I started feeling very lightheaded and kinda like I was having an out of body experience. I went to the emergency room where I was given meclizine and a ct scan which came back normal. I was also having palpitations and tachycardia. Probably because I was panicking. The following morning I woke up with tremendous pressure in the head and a feeling of fluid in my ears and what I describe as a feeling of dizziness but not true spinning. The pressure was so intense that my eyes were blood shot red. This continued for approximately a week and a half. Then on June 19th I started feeling better and sat on my boyfriends boat for a several hours (which is something I do on a regular basis) woke up the following morning almost back at square 1. Only this time I'm left rocking, still with ear fullness and fluid feeling in my ears. I forgot to mention I flew twice during this time and oddly enough it was the only times I felt completely normal. I have since seen an ENT, had several tests done. I was found to have chronic sinusitis, allergies and inflammation/cysts in the sinuses. I had a VNG (balance test) done. I had balloon sinuplasty done last week. Followed up yesterday only to be told that my ears seem perfect and that although there's some possible vestibular neuritis the dr said it must be the brain and not from my ears. I'm so confused and lost. My vision has been impacted, it's very difficult and not safe for me to drive. I can see everything but all of the cars/the motion seems to make my brain go in overdrive. I went for vestibular rehab and was told I failed the visual portion. I asked what that meant and I was told that I'm compensating visually but not well. I'm trying not to get depressed but I don't know what to do or where to turn. I have not worked in 7 weeks because I drive for my job and I can't do it. I'm still having the rocking sensation. Not quite as intense but my balance is off. I'm doing daily VRT exercises at home. Any suggestions would help. Has anyone ever had vestibular neuritis not caused by the inner ear? Or is it possible that my ears tested well but could still be the cause? I forgot to mention I have tinnitus which I've had for 16 years. A result of another episode like this I had in the past. This is the 4th episode over the past 20 years. I am a 41 year old female, that's normally very active. Please help.

Vestibular neuritis always involves the vestibular nerve, just after the inner ear..

I saw another Dr yesterday and she said she was surprised I was never treated with steroids. I am 7 weeks in now, she gave me a prescription for 14 days worth of prednisone. Can it still help me at this point? I am so desperate. I still feel like there's fluid in my ears, although my ENT says my ears are clear. I started VRT. NO major progress yet, but I've only if 2 sessions. I'm starting to get depressed. This just can't be my life.

The usual treatment for vestibular neuritis is a short term course of corticosteroids.  Therefore the prescription is correct.  Now we need to wait and see.

To start you off  tnseesha look at the VEDA website. vestibular DisordersAssociation  (They also have a Facebook, page) They are in the US and a mine of info on all the different symptoms for Vestibular problems, and more!  You will need to educate yourself on this as we have all discovered most drs, ENT's especially, are not that well versed in it all as they  should be!!

    Hi Tneesha,

I agree with gillian that it is important to educate yourself on vestibular conditions.  This will help you to work with your Dr, describe your condtiions more clearly, and help you come up with the right questions to ask your Drs.

Since you have had 4 eppisodes, you might want to consider reading up on  meniere's disease.  This condition normally results in vertigo symptoms (room spinning). However it does have eppisodes that can last for quite a while.

I really hope your symptoms improve.
