Desperation

Hi all

I havent posted in a while, just wanted to burry my head in the sand i guess

Things are bad on my end. I have pudendal neuralgia. Seems obvious to me that its post herpetic neuralgia

Most painful thing i have ever experienced. It just goes on and on. Its been weeks. I had to go home from work last week due to pain. Its like someone is stabbing me with a hot knife from labia to sacrum.

There is no end in sight. I am told it can last for month to years.

I cant take antivirals due to strange reaction. Im terrified i will have an outbreak and make things worse.

It was just 3 mos ago i was trail running with my dogs. Now i lay in bed depressed and doped up on neurontin.

I am actually having thoughts of suicide. dont worry, not on the cliff yet, but i feel so hopeless and broken.

Not sure why im posting this, its just not the kind of thing i feel like i can share with anyone else

Whoops -- great insights, thanks.   I will indeed shop around.

Checking in -- are you lower on the pain scale?

I got down to a 3 and was really hopeful but went back up to a 5 yesterday and today

This may be a two steps forward one step back kind of process. Overall i am down from the 8 of three weeks ago.

I start physical therapy in january. I hope it helps.

I just took my first famvir. I really feel like its the virus aggravating the nerve and if i can just supress it i can heal. Argh... So frustrating

      Thanks for checking in

Hey, just wondering if you ever came across this case report about a woman who developed severe hyperaesthesia after her first GH outbreak.

Hyperaesthesia is apparently an abnormal increase in sensitivity to stimuli, so not too disimilar to neuropathy and the like. Anyway, antiviral meds didn't really help her, but amitriptyline hydrochloride did. Link below.

Hyperaesthesia Following Genital Herpes: A Case Report

    http://www.hindawi.com/journals/drp/2011/903595/

Amitriptyline hydrochloride is a tricyclic antidepressant and apparently available as Adepril, Amitid, Amitril, Elavil, Emitrip, Endep, Enovil, Trepiline, Tryptanol and Vanatrip. Not sure about generic. I only know all of this due to Google, by the way! Lol

Anyway, just thought I'd try to help you out. Hope you're still feeling somewhat better and that you're able to better tolerate the Famvir. smile

      Felis

      This is a great article

      Thanks for the research!!!

My pain is deeper, and i have very little sensitivity to touch, so in still thinking neuralgia, but amitriptyline is allegedly used for neutopathy as well

Honestly, when i have taken anti virals for a few days (until i cant stant the side effects any more) i havent really seen much improvement. I think i just always feel like the virus is active because i am in so much pain

      Ugh.. So frustrated

Glad to help! I think it's worth a shot, especially if famciclovir isn't helping. I saw a couple of brief references after that article which seem to suggest amitriptyline hydrochloride as the way to treat certain nerve conditions. Btw, post-herpetic neuralgia can also cause heightened sensitivity. Any combination of nerve pain (acute and jabbing or deep and aching), nerve sensitivity and/or nerve sensations, apparently.
