Deterioration of second hip

I had a THR in January 19 and have had a remarkably good and quick recovery. At the time my surgeon said my other hip was absolutely fine. in the last few days my other hip has started to give a little pain and reminds me of my other hip in the early days. As my surgeon said my hip was fine just six months ago, is it likely it could have deteriorated that quickly?

Depending on what caused the issue with the replaced hip it could be. For me it was avascular Necrosis; however, it may be that you are doing more now and either your seeing some adjustment pain or you are putting more weight on the good hip as a reaction to the replacement.

No harm no foul in telling your doc what is going on. I had some pain in the uninvolved hip and knee post surgery, but it was in most cases just a change in activity and reliance on the uninvolved joint.

    Hope that helps.

i had my right hip replaced in 2016 i didnt have any problems at the time with my left hip but over the next few months i started with pain in the left hip in 2017 12 months after the right replacement had the left hip replaced so i suppose the answer is yes it can deteriorate quickly

Hi John my hips deteriorated very quickly. I had my first hip replacement in December 2018 and my second 5 days ago. I haven't had the chance to benefit from the first hip replacement because my other hip started playing up not long after the first operation. Hopefully, I will soon have my life back. I pray that you are pain free soon X

Hi John, any further news on this? I am really feeling my left now. Right was done last October. Told then left was not as bad as right, but gosh, I am feeling it after some long walks in the last few weeks. Cheers, Helen
