Dettol burn on skin

This is very embarrassing... But I mistakenly (and stupidly) applied undiluted Dettol on my penis 2 days ago. I got confused and applied a Dettol detergent when I meant to use a sanitizer. I felt a burning sensation and immediately washed the area.

The next day, I noticed black or darkened spots on the glans (and slightly on the skin directly below it). I consulted with a doctor and he gave me a topical medicine to apply. Then I consulted with a dermatologist and he said it should be fine and prescribed a different ointment.

Today the darkened skin got dry, a bit wrinkly and rather numb, although I don't feel any pain now. As I'm unable to get physically to a doctor (had to embarrassingly send them photos) due to being in quarantine over coronavirus, I'm worried to death.

What is this condition and will it go away? Or did I cause permanent skin damage? My biggest fear right now is if this will cause lasting damage.

The darkened skin is just scar tissue and it will gradually flake off leaving fresh skin underneath. Dont worry. Put some bland moisturising lotion/cream on it every night and that should help the new skin to be soft. Please dont put Dettol sanitiser on your penis. it is alcohol based and will dry out the skin tissue. It is only for hands and not your penis. Soap and water is perfectly fine.

Ok, thank you for the reassurance. I've been reading about chemical burns and all kinds of conditions that are really scaring me. I'm really worried this might have lasting damage. So you're saying there is really nothing to worry about? Is the skin dryness and wrinkles normal in such an injury? There is no reason to worry?

Please dont keep stressing about this. There is not much you can now do except treat your skin more kindly in future.I am sure this will gradually get better but it may take a little while.Just keep using a body lotion or oil to help keep the skin supple. Products designed for baby skin are ideal.
