Dexa scan getting worse
Posted , 10 users are following.
My last bone density scan about a year ago showed some signs of osteopenia. My rheumatologist has me try fosamax. I had some intestinal issues so I stopped within the first month.
There was a link on this forum regarding an over the counter group of viatmins and minerals that was as good as the new drugs.
I printed the report and have since lost it. We are in the process of moving so things get “ lost” a lot here recently.
I hope this makes sense.
I’ve had PMR since September of 2011. Thanks George

Acalcium supplement is in order. Take a smaller dose a couple of times a day rather than one large dose. There is a lot of calcium in a good diet so you likely won't need a huge amout in supplements. You need to take Vitamin D3, magnesium (maybe not much) and Vitamin K2. Many of us also make sure to eat lots of leafy greens, prunes (for the boron) fermented foods (yoghurt is supposed to help with calcium absorption) including kefir, various fermented vegetables, some kinds of cheese. And we try to avoid too much refined foods, go easy on grains generally but especially refined grain, and avoid sweets except for a treat.
Weight bearing exercise is important. Can be a simple as a daily walk. Learn strategies for improving and maintaining sense of balance (fallying is biggest fracture risk factor) like yoga, tai chi, Nordic walking.

Doing well. Had a little bit of a flare but took extra pred for a few days and things are good. Went to the hydrotherapy pool at 06.30am. It is 35.5C and makes exercising easy! Although I had to cut back to 30 minutes as 60minutes was too much to start with. I am about to go to a butcher who is 20 minutes away and he is going to talk to me about mincing my own meat and making my own sausages. I just purchased a mincer. It is a shame we can't post photos. I am sure I am going to end up with a messy kitchen the first few times I attempt to do this
Take Care
