I'm scheduled for a tooth extraction and implant soon and was told i would be prescribed the above med to deal with swelling im curious how it works differently than prednisone which i'm currently on for PMR.

Or if there is any contraindication

It is a different corticosteroid with a much longer half life in the body so the effect lasts longer. I don;t know about how it might interact and if it were me I would be keen to have some advice from an experienced and reliable dentist - not just the one who is selling you a very expensive dental procedure. But then, I am very sceptical. You aren't taking bisphosphonates I assume?

Yes, I'm confident in the dentist and he knows I'm on pred

i was just curious about what people here know

    And no, I'm avoiding bisphosphonstes

DEXAMETHASONE is used during dental surgery to reduce swelling, pain and nausea after dental surgery., We injected it IV when I was administering anesthetics for such procedures.

i wouldn't worry about that single dose; persons on pred are given extra steroid during surgery to counter surgical stress.
