DHS hip screw pain after 17 years

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had a dynamic hip screw put in when I was 11 and it has been causing me pain for the last 2 years. No doctor can seem to give me a reason why. I compared my x-rays with others and noticed the tip of the screw ends just below the femoral head in the neck of the femur. Is this normal and has anybody out there experienced the same issue? Any advice is greatly appreciated thank you!

    Hi Nicci,

warm welcome to this friendly forum of fellow hippies --

I am not sure if I understand your question ...

did you get DHS because you broke your hip/femur - If so then I assume that your x-ray will look different from ones who had Total Hip Replacement - and even then I believe that there will always be somethhing different because they just are ...

I am so sorry though that you are in pain - the only thing I can say is to keep on bugging the doctors - have you seen an orthopedic surgeon yet?

    please let us know okay?

    big warm hug

Thank you for responding. I had a dynamic hip screw put in with a plate going down the side of my femur. It was put in because I had a large benign tumor in the femoral shaft that weakened my bone. I jumped out of a barn hayloft causing a fracture. It has always given me a little trouble when the weather changes but lately the pain has intensified. I have seen an Ortho and several general doctors and they have told me anything from it's a pocket of fluid causing the pain to what my orthopedic surgeon said that it is a stress fracture. The hip screw stops in the neck of the femur where it appears there are fracture lines forming from an x-ray I had a few months back. I actually just scheduled an appt with a new Ortho due to getting a better insurance plan and better coverage so I'm hoping he will know more than the last doctors!
