My father who is in his 70s have Type 2 diabetes. He has excess weight loss, and he is complaining of foot pain and weakness, every now and then. He is also complaining of sleepless night. I am worried of his excessive weight loss the most, as well as of his foot pain complain. What can be the reason? and what can I do for the relief? He is lazy for going to hospital. But will take appointment soon.

Hi: Both of those symptoms indicate uncontrolled blood glucose levels. It is hard to force someone to make permanent changes in their diet. They will tend to sneak sweets. Can you send us some of his latest glucose numbers and A1C. I found that if I focus on foods rich in potassium that my body is better able to maintain more normal levels. Spinach, Kale and other vegetables. But, I found the easiest way is to drink coconut water. It is hard to find one that is fresh and tastes good, so don't be put off by the first one you select. I buy Simple Truth organic. It is of excellent quality. A large 34oz container has over half your daily requirement of 4500mg. John
