Diagnosed after 10 years, sending love

I've just been diagnosed with HS after 10 years of pain and shame. I never knew what it was until I found an article describing my symptoms online - and I've done a lot of googling over the years. I never went to the doctor because I was so ashamed.
A few days ago I flared, I think it's because I had shaved down there and worn super tight jeans (work uniform). It hurt so bad that I had to go to the doctor. I started crying just by telling him about it. He was really professional and he didn't make me feel gross about myself even when he dealt with the boils. He was sad that I hadn't come in sooner. He gave me antibiotics. I'm going to see a dermatologist and talk to some specialists about gland removal surgery.
Right now, it's like I don't have HS. This is the best feeling ever. I don't know why I don't have any symptoms right now. Here are the things I have avoided for the past 3 days:
- Sugar
- Fatty foods
- Nightshades
- Tight clothing
- Shaving my private parts
I'm expecting my period within the next five days. I'm keeping a journal of what I eat, how active I am, if I'm wearing tight clothing or not. I hope to find out what might trigger me.
I hope you are doing well and that you are in a good flare-free period. You are not alone in this.

i have to go in on friday and have one lanced in my arm pit, i cried the whole time, and i swore to make some changes because i never want to go through that again. I have also cut out nightshades, but also dairy, gluten, legumes until i am flare up free, then i will try reintroducing things until i find the culprit.
Good luck on your journy, i hope that you find longterm relief with it!

Hi Anne I am glad you finally sought help for your HS. There is no reason to be ashamed as it's not your fault is it? Doctor see a lot worse than your boils trust me. If I have a big infected one I always go to the doctor as usually ab's help get rid of the infection and it can then start to heal up. x

Hi Anne ... Just sending you a hug. Glad you went to get help. Rise above it in strength not shame. You're already helping others! This is my first time having a rupture and finding out what I have. You helped me a lot, Thank you! I know what it's like to overcome ... have no boobs, survived a type of breast cancer only 30% survive, still a big mess 4 years later but learned to laugh at myself! We're beautiful ... what we overcome makes us shine even brighter with love and compassion! Peace to you
