Diagnosed w BV but with yeast infection symptoms, IT NEVER GOES AWAY! 2 years!

So this all started in FEB 2016. I was in a relationship for 2 years, and after ending it, had a 2 new partners in a matter of a month. I had NEVER had any problems with my vagina... EVER! All of a sudden I started having a horrendous blood/coppery strong smell. It was awful. I didn't even feel comfortable wearing shorts at times. I had a friend tell me to get tested for mycoplasma and uroplasma (as I kept getting negative results for any stds). My gyno didnt want to test me as she said that wasnt a "thing" but I forced her to. So i was tested and I indeed had both. She also said I had a yeast infection, so she gave me medication for both.

Nothing changed. I started dating my now boyfriend of almost 2 years in Nov. 2016 and I knew I smelled so I refused to have sex with him. Finally one day I figured I'd try a douche! So I wouldnt smell inside. I did it and it worked. I NEVER SMELLED BAD AGAIN. I can't even tell you what a godsent that was, I cried for weeks from happiness because the smell was gone.

After a few months, I felt some itchiness (by the way by this time, we moved out of the country, and since we met we were inseparable. no cheating whatsoever.) I thought ugh a yeast infection. Went to Dr, she gave me medication. It went away, then about 2 months later it was back again. I thought OMG what is going on?!

May of 2017, we found out I was pregnant! We were sooo excited. Went to Gyno to see the heartbeat, and while the gyno was examining me, she said oh you have a yeast infection. She gave me meds. OK.

At 13 weeks on our Argentina from Chile, I was spotting. We were so scared. We landed in Argentina, and sure enough, I had a miscarriage. We were devastated. So much mental anguish and physical pain. I had a D&C, and continued on with our lives.

Then after I got my period, I was extremely itchy again. I went to gyno and more yeast infection meds. Nothing worked. Now I get about a week of relief a month, but I am itchy every single day. So a month ago I went to a dr in Indonesia, tested myself completely, and I am clean of all diseases and yeast. But I came up positive for BV!!!! So i took Flagyl for 7 days, 2 times a day, and no relief sad

I feel like it came back with a vengence! What gives? I don't know what to do anymore. I love making love to my partner but we've eliminated oral (which I love) and I'm so uncomfortable that I don't want to have sex. I don't smell bad, it just smells a little like glue. I'm itchy always, I get white discharge and it looks clumpy, just like a yeast infection. I'm also red and sometimes it hurts to have sex. It never hurts to pee. I don't know what to do. Please help! This has been killing me for almost 2 years now!

Sorry to hear this. Mine started with itching in March. Took flagyl 2 different times. I only had itching nothing else. In a week or so I go back to my ob gyn they're going to do a biopsy and if it comes back that I have BV they're going to put me on a very high dose of steroids. But as of right now I don't have any symptoms I think mine started with using body wash my body wasn't used to and you're never supposed to use soap around your vagina just water.

Oh wow. As women, we’re so sensitive sad I hope yours finally goes away. Please update me if you’d can (or would like) on the biopsy results. I’ve never heard of steroid treatments to get rid of it!

Sorry to hear about your misacarriage.

Has your partner been tested? Sometimes men can carry the bacteria for BV in their urethra & could be inadvertently passing it to you. Most doctors won’t test men because they don’t feel like men can get this infection. However, if you noticed symptoms once you had sex with a new partner (my scenario) then he could possibly be the culprit, especially if you noticed the symptoms after having unprotected sex. I’ve never had any type of of vaginal infections outside of the occasional yeast infections caused by antibiotics. When I got a new partner, we used protection in the beginning. As soon as we started having unprotected sex, I noticed the symptoms, after googling, I went to the doctor & it was BV. They gave me the usual flagy & it would work temporarily & then the BV would come back right after I had sex. I didn’t initially link the BV to unprotected sex at first because I’m thinking men can’t have this infection. Well after the 4th round of antibiotics, I was over it. I began my obsessive research & found many articles that said men could be harboring the bacteria in their urethra. After taking my last round of bacteria & trying almost every home remedy to no avail, I made sure that we used condoms on every single encounter. I’ve been BV free for 2 years now.  I wanted him to take the flagyl just to be safe but no doctor would prescribe it, I tried to say that I had it again so they’d prescribe it to me & I give it to him to take but that didn’t work. So now we just use condoms & I’ve been good ever since.

Wow, four rounds? sad I’m glad you’re better now but I can’t believe they wouldn’t prescribe it to him. I was lucky that in Indonesia they sell Flagly over the counter so I bought a good amount to take w me in case it returned - and it did. I’m going to have him take it as well. I hope this works! Thank you for replying!

Hi I’m sorry 😐 I’ve been dealing with this s**t for about 5 years and every time I go to the doctor I take the antibiotics and then 2 weeks later I end up having it again. I hadn’t had any sex with my bf for a month and I still had symptoms. Today I had intercourse with him and not only was I very itchy, but I had a lot of discharge when I cleaned. I’m so sick of it. I’m taking supplements but that’s not even helping (or maybe I’m not giving them enough time). I have been wanting to get pregnant since October and haven’t been successful which I’m sure it has to do with BV. I’m so sad and depressed over this. You’re not alone.

This is so discouraging I’m sorry you’re dealing with this for now 5 years!!! I can’t even believe doctors can’t figure this out. It’s always sounded like an easy fix, but I guess it isn’t. Thank you for replying.
