Diagnosed with Acne inversa

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping you can all give me advise. I got a small pea like lump under my right arm in June which was excised and drained and a month ago I got another one under my left arm which the same procedure was performed then I got another and another until I had 5 removed under my right arm. The scarring is pretty bad and I was off work for a month. I had an appointment with a dermatologist who diagnosed me with acne inversa (early stages). I have no idea what it is and I have been free from abscess for 2 weeks now. Will this flair up again? You all seem to have very severe cases of it. The dermatologist said I have to keep my weight down, don't smoke and get the implanon from my arm removed. I weigh 125 pounds, don't smoke and have an appointment to get the bar removed. I'm so confused.

Hi this sounds like HS but as far as I'm aware acne inversa isn't another name for it.  I am puzzled.

If this is HS then yes it will almost certainly recur x

My apologises.  Just googled it and it is the same as HS.  There are lots of sites on the net about it.  There are also a couple of good HS fb sites which might help you.

It's good it is in the early stages and it requires aggressive treatment to stop it spreading to other areas.   Antibiotics often deal with any any infection so always see a doctor if you get any more.

There is no way of telling if yours will be mild or more severe.  Mine is mild even though it has spread.  I find stress it a big trigger for me.

I am sure others will be alone with their advice soon, x

Yip Acne inversa is an old name for it, apparently HS isn't quite right either so who knows another name may come along in the future. Verneuil's disease is my favorite name- almost sounds exotic.

I am in the first stage and have managed to kick it into remission  (8 months plus) by concentrating on 1) de stressing 2) low/slow carbs 3) lots of sleep 4) excercise. For each of us there is a differnt cause  e.g. food intolances, hormones so what works for one may not work for another. Check out what works for others and experiment. For my two cents worth curcumin is a great help for flares, Vitiamin D may also be a benefit. Avoiding the nightshades worked for a bit, but I can tolerate them now so I just limit consumption.

Dematogoist are great for responding to the conditions, but don't be afraid to surf the net and look for possible casues. For me it was insuline resisitance causing inflamation.

    All the best

Hi, as others have said it's good you are getting the treatment in the early stages. i didn't, and it meant it progressed badly. i would advise that you always seek medical treatment every time it flares up, so you remain in control of it.
