Hi Caron, I have very vivid dreams, too. I am on 100mg and been back on since Nov 19. But not all of them are nightmares. They are very real and vivid, so I understand how they could be scary. However, I can't really remember my dreams when I wake up.
I don't know what to say because unlike a lot of other side effects like pain where I could soak in an epsom salt bath, there's no way we can control our dreams.
I guess my only advice is just to remind yourself once you wake up that it's just dreams and a side effect of the drug. Perhaps in due time the dreams are less vivid and horrific.

Thank you. My dreams are so real I'm struggling to distinguish between dream or reality x

Hi,
I have been on various doses of sertraline over the last 2 years, 150mg, 100mg and now 50mg for last 5 months. I hardly ever dream, or at least that I can remember. But then again I take other medication for 4 prolpased discs in my spine, and I donlt sleep very well at all because of this.
About 20 years ago I took beta blockers for migraine prophylaxis, and they gave me dreams and sometimes nightmares as you say are bothering you. Diff meds affect us all so differently. In the ned I had to swap to yet another medication.
I dont know if taking it at another time of the day may be helpful ? I always take my sertraline in the morning. Antidepressants do have an effect on sleep patterns, it's a few years since I read up on it now, but it was to do with the diff phases of sleep REM etc.
Is the sertraline working for you as an AD ?
