Diagnosed with costo today

Hi turns out sore breasts and ribs costo. Also have fybromyalgia so had expected this.  GP pressed ribs where bra lies and the burning pain was incredible.  Am to take ibuprofen/paracetamol and use heat against skin, which sounds a bit worrying in case I burn my delicate bits LOL.  Not much else that can be done apparently, or has anyone found the wonder cure.  Here's hoping, fed up screaming when I accidently catch chest on something, even my coats hurts to do up.

    Hi,

I have tietze's syndrome which is similar to costo, haven't found the wonder cure yet but hoping it's out there somewhere!! There's loads of things you can try from lidocaine patches, steroid injections and nerve blocks, so hang on in there!

Hi Gemma what are lidocaine patches, can you get them in uk please. I tried a hot wheat bag last night across top which helped but worried about the self heating pads in case they stick too much or burn.

      Hi

They are like dressings with local anaesthetic in them so they numb the area they are placed over. Yeah you can get them in the UK as I live in the south west. Things like amytriptoline are good if your not sleeping. (Not sure if the spelling is quite right).

Hi sorry for late reply, could you please tell me the name as I can only find the cold ones and the ones with deep heat which I am not sure would be any good. I did try amytriptoline for hot flushes but they made me feel really dizzy and I had to stop. Actually sleeping ok but do sometimes have to rearrange things, if you know what I mean.

      Hi,

Try lidoderm. Don't think you can buy them over the counter but your gp should be able to prescribe them. That's good.

Thanks, I will knowing what it is helps as you think all sorts of things, I thought I was having a heart attack on many occasions as pain was so bad then thought it must be inflammatory breast cancer. GP certainly knew where to press on my ribs to get a scream yesterday, never felt pain like it. Take care we all need a miracle

hi I used DEEP FREEZE cold gel patches, spray and gel. The patches are ideal for sticking between your breasts without burning anything smile I am not cured but I have got myself off tablets for the most part using hot cold treatments and massaging myself every day. Its taken two years to get to this stage but it can be better so I hope it gives you some hope. I am wearing bras again after not being able to wear them ( and I am big busted so was a nightmare). Think of your chest/ribs as a scrumpled up bit of paper and start massaging all the knots and tensions out (gently and slowly)- use your thumbs in the side ribs, its going to hurt but in the long run it worked. Also massage under your breasts along the bone and in the middle to improve bloodflow. I spent two years hardly being able to walk, breathe, bend or do anything, now I go out for decent walks. Try to relax - worrying, stress etc just tenses the body up more - again its hard this thing is horrible -  Best wishes

HI, thanks for your reply, I have been using pain killers regularly which has helped a bit ,I cannot take ibuprofen for too long as they badly upset my stomach so will get some deep freeze to try. I have also used a heated wheat bag which is helpful, the breasts themselves are not so sore, the bone underneath is absolute agony, the burning pain is incredible. Taking my bra off is the best part of the day, like you I am big busted so going without during the day is a no no my pj's are going on earlier and earlier. I also have osteoarthritis in neck and top of back due to many years sitting at a typewriter and learning using a manual, so gp thinks all may be connected. The only good thing is that I no longer panic and think that the pain is a heart attack. I hope I never find out what that feels like because this is bad enough. Glad you are feeling better after such a long time. Take care
