Today, I went to see an ENT specialist further to a referral from my GP, and I have been diagnosed with Globus Pharyngeus. I am a 38 year old male. Whilst I am reassured that my condition has been identified and explained to me, I just wish that I could be given some treatment options. My experience of Globus started in September 2013. I was eating a yoghurt at the time, and suddenly, it felt like I had twisted a ligament or muscle or tendon or something on the left side of the my throat, near my voice box. The pain persisted constantly for about 2 months, including when I ate or drank. At the time, the GP prescribed my antibiotics 'in case' (he said) an infection developed. I was in real discomfort. After approx. 2 months the pain subsided. During the 2 months, I think I sort of got used to the pain, and whilst it was constantly there, I ate and drank as normal. Then in January, whilst drinking coffee, the symptom suddenly returned. I was drinking coffee at the time. Once again, I was in considerable pain and discomfort. Constantly. Nothing helped. It was all very distressing and very miserable. Eventually, the GP referred me to an ENT specialist. I attended there today. The pain actually subsided about 2 - 3 weeks ago, after 2 months of pain. Today, I had the camera placed up my nose and down my throat. No abnormalities were found, which I'm pleased about. I have been told that its this Globus Pharyngeus condition. Of course, I am dreading it returning (which I think it will at some point). Its very miserable. I do empathise with everyone on this forum. Is anyone aware of any possible treatment options? Analgesics certainly don't help when I've got the pain. Any advice or other people's experiences would be much appreciated and hugely valued. Thank you...

I personally believe, distraction is the answer!!! Consult your doctor for anti-anxiety meds if it is bothering you too much.

ENT specialist. I went yesterday, was examined, and camera down to throat. He said I may have grumbling infection in tonsils. I've to have my tonsils out within next 6 weeks. He also said that I have globus, he said most people cope well once they know it isn't anything serious. So hopefully I will get used to it. He also told me to cut down on coffee as caffeine dries the throat, and makes it feel worse. so I'm having less coffee more water. He said stress makes it worse. I would describe it as feeling like I have cut my throat behind my left tonsil with a sharp piece of food and that the foods still there three months later. I hope you keep well and it doesn't return as I know how it takes over normality. work was difficult as I couldn't concentrate, and everyday things you normally just get on with become an effort.

Hey jfcuk1975,
I have been struggling with what I have been told is globus for the past 6 years. I am in constant pain and discomfort and Im still quite convinced I swallowed a foreign body whilst drinking a coffee which they couldnt detect (did a barium swallow a week after the incident). Iv seen countless doctors and specialists and no one seems to be able to explain why i havr the pain and symptoms I do and thus seem to pin it on globus - suggesting some conversion disorder when I know (thank God) I have not experienced any traumatic events that would manifest in such painful symptoms. I think its just doctors afraid of saying "I dont know". I am desperately seeking any form of relief and was wondering if you have made any progress since your last post? Any techniques, medication ...anything that has helped? Any advice or update would be immensely appreciated!!! Thanks
