Diagnosed with Meniere's but hearing is fine for now!!

Hello, I'm new here....just read about this and thought to ask. I'm 39 Years old and I've had a terrible time since Feb 2017 with dizziness, nausea and unsteadiness and wasn't able to get out of bed. My doctor didn't understand what was going on....I couldn't go to work or be usefull at home. The 1st ENT I went to in March said my hearing is fine, I don't have Meniere's just tinnitus but couldn't explain why I'm nauseas and dizzy. Then in July I went to a different one as I couldn't even function and thought I'm going to die if this continues then after a few tests, I was told end of August that I have Meniere's border line. I was given dyazide twice/day and put on depression medicine as my life just turned upside down. Now I'm not responding well to medication still about 2 good days in a week the rest of the week then I'm dizzy and in bed. I haven't been able to be myself for almost 10 months. I'm having a 3rd ENT look at me in Jan 2018 to do more testing to see what else is going on as feeling that this will never end. I am starting to loose hope that I'll ever be the independent person I once was with a life and a career that is in shambles now. Reading from what most of you have said, I feel that I'm not alone in this invisible ailment that people can't see but the only one's that go through it know the damage it is doing mentally and emotionally. Now my right ear has started to feel full and have ringing does that mean it's getting worse. Looking for some answers:-(

Oh Reena, I read your post.  I was just diagnosed a few weeks ago and what you said is exactly how I feel.  I have had 3 vertigo/dizziness attacks these past 3 days.  Before this I had only had 3 or 4 since symptoms started last June.  Now I feel I am having panic symptoms just because of the fear I am living with.

When an attack starts, my head feels like a balloon getting larger and larger and pressure seems to build up.  My head feels like a bowling ball-so heavy.  I have only about 30 seconds to get to my bed.  I'm so scared.

Hi Candy, I totally understand how you feel. I was so devastated as life completely went upside down. I was just prescribed Betahistine 24mg 3times/day to take in addition to my Dyazide 25mg 2times/day. I honestly still feel like a lab rat being tested as they know I have Meniere's but it feels like something else is also going on. All I can say is try to pray as God is the only one there when one feels alone and I also just turned to God and tried to find some peace and will to continue. I really wish you all the best....

Thank you so much for responding to me. Yes, I pray also because I know the fear is not good. God bless you.

Hello, I wanted to know how has your experience been with working and also having MD. As currently, I can't focus, remember things and most of the time I feel lost. So how have you balanced it. Looking forward to hearing from you.

This was my experience: was at work (attacks started at about age 50)and after lunch I was at my desk and felt nauseous, then room started spinning. Told staff I had flu and got into my car to drive 5 miles home. Vomited all over my dashboard. Got home, tried to empty my stomach to get relief from the extreme nausea and dizziness. This happened two more times. Went to dr twice and they finally diagnosed me. No cure, no relief. Nothing worked for me. Hearing did not seem to be affected, but I was later told that every attack reduced my hearing. I finally found that it always hit me after lunch. If I went into a dark room and put my head on the floor so it would not move and just tried to sleep, it would go away in 3 to 4 hours and it might be months before it hit me again. Maybe an acid fluid gets into the inner ear and destroys hearing hairs in the cochlear canal. I retired at 62, had a total of about 8 or 10;attacks. Significant hearing loss started at about age 57 though I did have tinnitus from military gun shot sound  damage. Get a good and sympathetic ent guy. Maybe eustation tube blockage is sometimes preventing that acidic damaging  fluid from draining properly so it affects balance and hearing.

It’s been 12 years since I have had an attack, but now I have poor hearing, wear aids which help partially.
