My 18 year old son has has strep throat on and off 4 times in the last 3 months. Last week his throat swelled up again and became painful so he went to the doctor and he didn’t have strep but a mono spot test came back positive. He got blood work done to confirm he has mono and now he isn’t experiencing any symptoms of mono he has lots of energy his throat pain and most of the swelling went away and doesn’t have a fever, has anyone heard of anything like this?

    Hi Jordan,

Yes I definitely think this can be a common presentation of mono for sure, I'm hoping that the symptoms going means that your son has been able to get through the worst of this and is starting to return to full health again. Key thing is just that he doesn't push himself too hard and still gets plenty of rest and takes vitamins / herbs (a good strong multi-vitamin per day is a great, as is high levels of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day), B complex (for energy levels) and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng / echinicea), and remembers his body is still fragile at the moment, as so often it seems that pushing too hard when starting to feel okay again can cause a setback and delay recovery.

Remember your son is young and will get through this for sure, and the first 3 months are always the worst with this so hopefully this is a sign that excellent and complete recovery is now happening - believing that is the case! And if there's still some setbacks / dips in the coming weeks, remember that's normal and they will pass again and they will become less and less with time until the point where they don't happen anymore. The forum has some great guys on it for advice so always good to keep a tab on here as your son continues to get better from this (which he will fully I totally believe that thanks to God).

This is pretty common, being 18 is a great help in faster recovery. I have heard that mono and strep can go hand in hand, I was tested for both in the beginning and only mono spot came back positive and then positive for Epstein Barr.

Definitely agree with Mono that being 18 is a great plus for recovery - this is good news for sure.

For you Mono full recovery is definitely still going to get reached too. You've been through the mill I know and there are better days ahead I do believe!
