Diagnosed with Pernicious Anemia

Hi Guys,

I have recently been diagnosed with pernicious anemia. I am 24 years old from the UK.

I have had 6 loading doses and then I need to have 1 injection every 3 months.

Will the doctors do a blood test before my next injection to make sure my b12 levels are ok? or will I just carry on with the injections every 3 months for the rest of my life?

Just want to understand how the doctors will monitor my B12 levels.

thanks

    Hi Victoria,

After your 6 doses you will be given another blood test which will usually point them in the direction of will it be more than 3 months but I was told it was for life. Having said that I'm also folate as well my sister who has B12 only has been on injections for 18months now and she was told its for life she has to have them every 2 months.

hi, i had my last dosing jab on 19th April and require one every 3 months thereafter. Just had my first 3 month 'top up' on 19th July. Still have a feeling of weak legs, although i can walk fine. Strange sensation in the hands too, difficult to describe. Have i benefited ? I'm not sure as i dont know how long these things take to get right. I appreciate that B12 affects the nervous system and nerves are a funny thing
