Diagnosis

I have been dignosed with fybromyalgia years ago and have done nothing but suffer endlessly due to doctor not being able to control my pain much because of drug abusers/seekers. He wants to help, very compassionate but his hands are basically tied, he works for multicare. I take 12 mg of methadone a day and it just doesn't work. I really need any advice on what works for others, he is open for discussion, he knows I investigate constantly on this subject. Should I try a pain clinic? Does anything help the exaustion of it? Please tell me something helps!

I've never heard of methadone used for this but for abusers... I take Baclofen which is a miracle drug for muscle spasms, I mean miracle!! It alleviates the spasm so I can at least walk from rm to rm. But not completely as nothing out there can be. I also take percocet for pain, antidepressants, bladder medicine, IBS medicine, anxiety meds, nausea medicine first thing in the morning as I vomit in the AM everyday!! It's the worst!! I'm supposed to take Trazadone to help me sleep, but where I'm caring for two Gr kids, one of which is severely Autistic and tends to wonder at times at night I don't take it like I should... To eliminate messes when I wake due to destruction... Argh!! Double edge sword there...

Unfortunately, drug abusers have destroyed our quality of life to the people that need it. What I don't understand is; when these abusers go into an office requesting meds, than why not do testing to see if they have the background that would require these meds for them rather than give them out. I went through numerous testing to probe my many conditions, and was denied at first, but demanded they reconsider and look at my history first before giving me a flat no! I did prevail, but shouldn't be that way. Drives me crazy when I find out people go and get meds only to sell them, or laugh they got them an really don't need them. Frustrated in FLORIDA!!

I'm truly sorry for you I definitely know how you feel. I have no life and neither does my husband do to my condition. I'm unable to participate in my children's lives little own my own and it is really hard. you need to try to look at the times that you are able to do things and be grateful for those and in response to the doctors not giving you proper medication that helps I would possibly look for a different doctor if you can if your insurance will allow it try to find a doctor that specializes in fibromyalgia arthritis MS or some form of autoimmune disease or even a neurologist they normally know the conditions better and will prescribe the proper pain medicines nerve medicines muscle relaxants antidepressants that are needed to hopefully help to give you more good days than bad days. I hope you find some relief sooner then later some home remedies that has helped me are taking really hot baths also having a heating blanket on your bed and heating pads have helped me to give me some relief also try going to a chiropractor getting adjusted getting acupuncture and massage therapy also help to relieve the pain somewhat to make it more bearable

Its not as simple as drug abusers destroying it for everyone else.

!. Anyone is capable of becoming addicted to a prescription drugs due to long term use and depending on .how their system reacts to it.

      2. Doctors have caught on to this and being more cautious for your benefit when handing out drugs.

      3. No one chooses to become addicted I have a sister that was on morphine for back pain and through no fault of her own became addicted.

Yes there are people that abuse the system but not even the people that make drugs know the adverse affect it is going to have on people. Plus drugs are a massive money making business and they are practical pushed on to you.

I'm truly sorry for your pain. I understand and it's unfortunate that those who do have real pain and suffer we have to fight so hard to get the medicines to help us. When it seems that those who don't need it will use the system to get the medications quite easily. For pain I take 75 micrograms of fentanyl every two days which is a patch I change, and then I also take oxycodone 10-325 every 5 to 6 hours, I take Robaxin during the day 500 milligrams 4 times throughout the day help with muscle spasms I no longer take Baclofen because I've maxed out on the dosage and it was no longer helping I take gabapentin 600 milligrams 4 times a day for nerve pain I take zanaflex at night after up to 3 pills a 4 milligrams each tablet for muscle pain to help me sleep I take Imitrex 100 milligrams up to two tablets for my horrible migraines I also get IV infusion of steroids once a month along with taking CellCept to basically suppress my immune system this has helped some what. this combination of medication but I still have my days off horrible debilitating pain nothing really helps with being tired I also have been put on a new medication to help with anxiety the main thing is that you need to keep talking with your Dr I no longer go to a pain management doctor because they were always wanting to stick to me and give me injections basically that be the only way that I would get the medication and then I find out that them sticking me so many times has actually cause more problems for me I've had nerve blocks done I've had my nerves burned to try to help control the pain and really all it did was cause more pain I hope you can find something that will help you in your journey I've had some friends tell me that marijuana with the TCH taken out has really helped them with their pain unfortunately in my state it is not regulated so my doctor will not prescribe it for me I see a neurologist who is part of the Mayo Clinic here in Minnesota who prescribes and helps me with my pain and autoimmune problems that I have along with my polymyalgia. I truly hope you find something to help control ear pain to the point you can function

So sorry for your pain...it sounds just terrible!! The meds that your taking and still in so much distress... There is no quality of life here for any of us...very discouraging!! I am not the same person at all, and more upsetting that people who knew me before I grew I'll, look at me different, in a way like I'm faking or wish to live like this. One told me there wasn't any such thing as Fibromyalgia... I was in tears!

Not very uplifting to find some of the serious meds you guys are on and find no results.. And still have no quality of life.. I asked my Dr if this was going to get better and go away one day? And she said no, I will have it always... I had a complete breakdown in her office, and said this is no way for someone to have to live.. Where does one go from here?

I've also had 9 pneumothorax, and so many surgeries... I wish they would find treatment to give us all a reasonable quality of life...If anyone finds a medicine that helps with our conditions, I pray they find us and share it...

Thank you Pollybambi! Thank you too for being so forthright in your meds list, I think what I'm taking now is causing me to get severe headaches as it starts to wear off. Maybe I should see a neurologist, it couldn't hurt to try! I'm sorry you've had to go through so much also 😞

Hi LjFair;  yes there are plenty of meds that we have trialled, and some work for some and other for others..............there is mainly Amitrytilline, Gabapentin,Cymbalta, Lyrica plus others like valium or if really painful, a narcotic like Oxycodeine (for this type of medication you need to be assessed and it ordered by a specialist)......I take Amitriptylline 10mgms daily (and up to 25 if really bad), plus the 400 mgms of Gabapentin, with valium (or a muscle relaxant) when muscles get too stiff.

There are also natural therapies such as Physio and Massage for muscles......most of us take extra Magnesium for our muscles, and Vitamin B12..(and others who need the Vit D and Folic Acid).....as for getting a good, refreshing sleep, I also take a form of Melatonin.(I have to buy this on-line here in Australia as only one brand works for me), but others have taken it via Cherry Juice........do trial some, as it has removed the "fibro fog" in the mornings (It still takes a while to get going, but my mind is awake)....................hoping this helps you??........Bron
