Diagnosis from Lymphoma to Infectious Mononucleosis 10days later

18yr old went to ER for left ABD/groin pain,we thought he pulled a muscle or possible hernia. No cough,no cold,no sore throat, sleeping pattern had not changed,Ultrasound,CT scan and blood work done Dr. came back to the room and said I'M SO SORRY IT'S CANCER.CT scan showed enlarged lymph nodes and bloodclot. Of course we cried and we're shocked but knew we needed more tests to confirm. They sent us by ambulance to the other hospital. More tests,Upper CT,blood work were done.Dr said he was ruling everything out.Multiple Dr's said yup Lymphoma, Day 3 we went for biopsy ,Day 5 preliminary results came back,Dr confirmed Lymphoma...Still in the hospital we are waiting for Final results, Morning of Day 7 Dr calls hospital phone and says No Cancer just mono.Of course we are super excited, but still worried on how they missed mono in the 1st few days.He has no symptoms other than ABD pain. Could the biopsy be wrong?.? We go back to the Dr next week and hope to have more answers regarding the blood clot they linked tof Lymphoma.anyone heard of such a misdiagnosis..

It is possible to have this misdiagnosis, because biopsy results can be misinterpreted easily.

    Glad you have just mono.

    Hi Danielle,

Really sorry to hear about this traumatic experience you have been put through, I don't know enough about biopsies and things like that to say if it's easy to misdiagnose something like that, just hoping and believing that it is not something more serious than mono, what a terrible time you've had with your emotions but hang in there I believe God will look after you and make sure that everything is okay with this for you Danielle, I really believe that for you.

Let us know how you are doing and remember take plenty of rest because you need that with mono too - I fully believe in a complete recovery for you with God's help, hang in there!

Take care and thinking of you

    Craig
