diagnostic laparoscopy recovery time?

Not endo (probably), but I've been in extremely severe central abdominal pain for a month with very weird symptoms and my doctors are all confused. I'm going to have a diagnostic laparoscopy in hopes that we can figure it out. I'm 15 and the laparoscopy is diagnostic- how soon will I be able to be back in school? And any tips to minimize home recovery time?

so i just had a 3 cysts and hella endometriosis removed on thursday and my recovery time is supposed to be just two weeks (thank goodness for technology.) With yours being diagnostic I assume the recovery wouldn't be long, but just ask your doc! They'll give you a good time frame as to when you can be back to school. Good luck !

If you have it done on a Friday you should be back in school on Monday. Get some Gas X or something to take care of the gas -- they pump it inside of you so they can see better and it's hard to get rid of it, sometimes causes more pain than the incisions.
Don't be surprised if it is endo as docs are endlessly confused by it. i hope for your sake that it's something more treatable or completely curable.

My daughter (age 16) has daily severe abdominal pain in various different locations and down her vagina. Other weird symptoms include feeling like something is moving in there and gurgling / popping sounds. Moving, urinating and passing a stool make the pain worse. An MRI didn't find any evidence of endo, but then it doesnt always show up on an MRI. The consultant doesn't want to do laproscopy because she says my daughter is too young for such an invasive procedure.
Please, could you tell me, did they find endo in you?

Hi! My procedure went well and we did not find any endo, and none showed up on my MRIs, but my doctors are pretty certain that it is a GI related ailment at this point. My symptoms however are not like your daughter's. The current theory pending results for me is an aggressive Crohn's. Is she just seeing a pediatrician or is she seeing an OB/ gynecologist specialist? If she's not seeing a specialist it's worth it for sure. I'm surprised about the reluctancy to do a lap, it was considered about as invasive as my endoscopy and colonoscopy, which is minimally.

She is seeing a gynaecologist who specialises in laparoscopic removal of endo. Not getting any joy from the NHS, I found and paid for her to see a specialist privately.

They are reluctant to do lap surgery on teens. It is always possible that a teens organs are not 100% finished developing, and growth spurts past age 16 are not rare. Perhaps more important to docs is that such cuts so often cause adhesions and they want to give her a chance to have a child or two before starting down that path.
A lap is far more serious than an endoscopy or colonoscopy because the skin is cut in at least 2 places, and then you get pumped full of gas, as you know. Only a man who's never had the shape of his navel, therefore his bikini look, or a woman who's never had any of these 3 procedures, would think that these are equivalent. i don't count my GI exams, starting with those awake sigmoidoscopies in the bad old days, to about 5 endoscopies and 10 or so colonoscopies, as surgeries; my 2 laps (diff purposes) count in my 9 major surgeries.

Oops, i meant that i had a pretty navel before my 1st lap, and at 27 i still wore bikinis; the 2nd lap, to remove my dead gallbladder at 50, made an awful mess of my navel.

Hi, poor choice of wording on my part, I definitley don't think the procedures are in any way equivalent. I was just referring to the fact that my doctors referred to the three as "minimally invasive procedures," at least to me. There was very little reluctancy in my case, but that may have been due to the fact that my symptoms were very acute at the time and i had been admitted to the hospital as an inpatient.

Lol, but still: only idiot medicos who've never had any sort of procedure done would say such a thing.
