Diarrhea after gallbladder removal?

I had my gallbladder removed January 25th. Been ok... i didn't really eat the first 3 days. Now that I'm eating 'normally' I'm having some stomach issues still after eating, I get diarrhea with in minutes of finishing a meal, I'm always hungry after! I feel like my food goes right through me... it's depressing that I can't even go out to dinner with my family at a restaurant because I have to run to the bathroom after I eat. Forget about car rides! I have to stop a gas stations sometimes to relive myself. It's so embarrassing! Not to mention inconvenient! Someone help! Is anyone else experiencing this!

HI
what you're experiencing is fairly common. Try eating a low fat diet for a while. I found gradually increasing fiber in my diet helped as it soaks up excess bile which is now constantly dripping into the bile duct, whereas before it was stored in the gallbladder. If this fails, your doctor can prescribe medicine which will help.
Hope this helps!

I had my gall bladder out about 7years ago and still suffer from the symtoms you mention. After about 5 years I was finally prescribed a powder called Questran Light, I dont take it all the time but if I am going out I take it before I eat. It works 98% of the time. Gives confidence to eat out as you say it is so embarrassing having to rush to loo , never mind the horrendous noise if in a public loo. There is same medicine in tablet form now.
Oddly now I am suffering from a pain where my gall bladder used to be and am having blood tests to find out what is going on.
Ask your GP for this medicine as mine apologised that I wasnt offered it before.

Hi..I posted on this site years ago but still get notifications..and just had yours!. As mentioned in other posts there is a medication you can take. Questran Light..It is a powder you take before eating. You can see how it works as if you dont drink it quickly it solidifies in the glass! This is what it does in your intestines and helps prevent this sudden urgent trips to the loo. It certainly helps give confidence back out eating out or going out at all ! Its miserable and something the Surgeons don't warn you about! I am much better in recent months but do still get episodes and it is horrid!

I had my gallbladder out sept 2014 and never had any persistant diarrea until after the surgery. Explosive type, cant wait, and had frequent accidents. Prevented me from returning to work and when i didni couldnt perform my job. After trial and error and keeping logs of what i ate it became crystal clear i had a gluten sensitivity and carbs especially bad ones were the culprit. If i ate a low fat muffin i would be in the bathroom within minutes, fried foods, juices, breads, beer etc. I cut out all sugar, flour, gluten and im 100% cured. Im now thinking that gall attack years ago was just a coincidence that i happened to have a small stone. Probably shouldve gotten second opinion.

I'm sorry your experiencing this. I had my gallbladder surgery January the 17th. I've experienced 1 bout of diarrhoea. Make sure your eating correctly to let your body get used to your new digestive system. Sometimes it can take a while. Try drinking Skimmed milk and bland food for a few days and see how you get on, reintroduce one new food at a time and keep a food diary so you know what upsets your stomach.
Have you spoken to your doctor about bile supplements or anti diarrhoea medication?

i had my gallbladder removed during weight loss surgery 15 years ago and have suffered with explosive, watery, frothy diarrhoea ever since, although never making the connection to the surgery, doctors have told me its IBS and basically to live with it, i now live in Spain and my current doctor has prescribed colestiramina, its a powder which is dissolved in either water, juice or milk, i take 1 before bed and although I've only been on it a week, my god what a difference, i no longer have to drag my husband out of the bathroom due to the urgent need to GO, and the consistency has changed, fingers crossed things will finally return to normal and i can start going out of the house in a morning without the fear of having to find the nearest loo, it might be worth asking your doctor about this powder, good luck 🤞
